Our client, Total Projects, is a well-established Canterbury construction company delivering a diverse range of commercial building projects throughout the region. Due to continued growth, they are seeking an experienced Licensed Building Foreman to join their team and provide leadership across a variety of commercial construction projects.

The Opportunity
This is a key leadership role responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of construction sites across Canterbury. Working closely with Project Managers, clients, subcontractors, and site teams, you will ensure projects are completed safely, efficiently, on time, and to the highest quality standards.
The successful candidate will be a strong communicator, natural leader, and practical problem solver who enjoys being hands-on while leading by example.
With projects ranging from commercial developments through to renovations and upgrades of existing buildings, no two weeks are the same.
Key Responsibilities : Site Leadership
- Lead and supervise site crews and subcontractors.
- Allocate daily tasks and monitor productivity.
- Foster a positive and collaborative team environment.
- Mentor and support team members where required.
- Resolve site issues and challenges effectively.
Project Delivery - Oversee daily site operations and construction activities.
- Ensure projects are delivered on schedule and to specification.
- Coordinate labour, materials, equipment, and subcontractors.
- Monitor progress and communicate updates to Project Managers.
- Identify and proactively address potential delays or issues.
Quality Control - Ensure all work is completed to a high standard.
- Maintain excellent attention to detail and finishing quality.
- Conduct quality checks and ensure compliance with project requirements.
- Ensure workmanship aligns with New Zealand building standards and regulations.
Health & Safety - Promote and maintain a strong health and safety culture.
- Ensure compliance with all site-specific and company safety procedures.
- Identify hazards and implement effective controls.
- Lead toolbox talks and site safety initiatives as required.
Communication - Act as the link between Project Managers, clients, subcontractors, and site teams.
- Maintain professional communication across all stakeholders.
- Ensure project documentation and reporting requirements are completed accurately.
To be successful in this role, you will have: - Licensed Building Practitioner (LBP).
- Minimum 5 years' building and construction experience.
- Proven experience leading teams on construction sites.
- Current Full New Zealand Driver Licence.
- New Zealand Residency or Citizenship.
- Strong understanding of New Zealand building practices and regulations.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work independently and take ownership of site outcomes.
Highly Desirable
- Class 2 Driver Licence.
- Experience working on commercial construction projects.
- Experience with renovations, refurbishments, and older buildings.
- Strong understanding of site coordination and project scheduling.
