The KONGSBERG Program Agreement (KPA) formalises the strategic cooperation between KONGSBERG and the Guided Weapons and Explosive Ordnance (GWEO) Enterprise. Serving as the foundation for our shared ambition to build a robust sovereign defence capability, the agreement establishes a single programmatic framework for managing critical GWEO activities.

About the role:
The Senior Systems Engineer – Guided Weapons plays a key technical leadership role supporting Guided Weapons and Explosive Ordnance (GWEO) programs within the KONGSBERG Program Agreement (KPA) and broader sovereign capability initiatives.

This role is central to delivering complex, high-consequence engineering solutions that meet Defence requirements and enable Australia’s sovereign defence capability. Working across multi-disciplinary engineering teams, you will lead end-to-end systems engineering across the full capability lifecycle. From requirements definition through to integration, verification and delivery. You will drive technical outcomes that ensure systems are safe, effective and mission-ready, with strong engineering integrity at every stage. 

In this role, you will:

• Provide systems engineering leadership across GWEO programs, ensuring technical excellence, integration quality and alignment to program outcomes.
• Lead the development and review of key engineering artefacts including system analyses, integration studies, verification evidence, technical assessments and compliance documentation.
• Drive requirements, interface, risk, and technical governance activities across the project lifecycle.
• Contribute to proposals, technical responses, schedules, and capability development activities supporting Defence and internal programs.
• Act as a trusted technical interface between Defence stakeholders, KONGSBERG global engineering teams, Australian industry partners and suppliers.
• Support the growth of Australia’s sovereign industrial capability through technical engagement, supplier development and engineering leadership.
• Contribute to innovation, capability maturation and continuous improvement across current and future guided weapons systems. 

What you will bring:  

Essential

• Tertiary qualifications in Engineering (Systems, Mechanical, Electrical, Aerospace, Mechatronics or equivalent), Physics or Chemistry.
• Experience in systems engineering, technical leadership, or integration delivery within Defence, aerospace, weapons systems or complex engineered environments.
• Strong capability in developing engineering artefacts, technical analyses and system-level assessments.
• Experience supporting proposals, technical bids or capability development activities.
• Working knowledge of Defence acquisition frameworks and the capability lifecycle.
• Experience working within multi-disciplinary engineering environments. 

Desirable

• Chartered Professional Engineer (CPEng) or equivalent professional recognition.
• Experience supporting Defence programs or major capability delivery projects.
• Understanding of sovereign industrial capability frameworks and Defence supply chains.
• Experience contributing to R&D, technology development or system integration programs. 

Mandatory Requirements:  

• Must be able to access information controlled under the US International Traffic of Arms Regulations (ITAR). 
• Must be willing and eligible to obtain and maintain an Australian Security Clearance.
