We are seeking an experienced and commercially astute Commercial Manager to lead commercial operations and trade compliance activities across our Mawson Lakes Facility (MLF).
This is a strategic leadership opportunity for a high-performing commercial professional with strong defence, manufacturing, legal or trade compliance experience who thrives in a complex and fast-paced environment.
About the Role Reporting to senior leadership, the Commercial Manager will drive effective commercial solutions and oversee contractual, trade compliance and commercial governance activities across MLF programs and operations.
You will play a key role in protecting business interests, managing commercial risk, improving financial outcomes, and ensuring compliance with Australian, US and EU regulatory requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide commercial leadership across MLF programs and activities
- Lead contract drafting, negotiation, administration, and dispute resolution activities
- Manage trade compliance activities including export/import controls and regulatory obligations
- Provide expert guidance on ITAR, EAR and Australian export control requirements
- Develop and implement commercial policies, processes and governance frameworks
- Drive innovative commercial strategies that optimise profitability and business performance
- Negotiate commercial agreements with customers, suppliers and stakeholders
- Protect intellectual property and proprietary information
- Participate in enterprise risk review activities and commercial risk mitigation
- Collaborate closely with finance, supply chain, legal and project teams
- Build strong stakeholder relationships across Australian and international business units
- Support continuous improvement and capability development in commercial practices
About You You are a confident and solutions-focused commercial leader with exceptional negotiation and stakeholder engagement skills. You bring strong commercial judgement, attention to detail, and the ability to influence across all levels of an organisation.
Essential Qualifications & Experience
- Tertiary qualifications in Law, Commerce or a related discipline
- Minimum 6 years’ experience in a commercial or legal role within a complex environment
- Experience within defence, manufacturing, engineering, or a similar industry
- Strong contract negotiation and commercial management capability
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Strong understanding of commercial risk and compliance frameworks
Desirable Experience
- Experience with Australian, US and EU trade compliance frameworks
- Working knowledge of ITAR and EAR regulations
- Experience with ASDEFCON contracting frameworks
- Experience managing intellectual property and proprietary information
- Cross-cultural competency and stakeholder management experience
- Experience working within agile and commercially focused organisations
- Current unrestricted practising certificate for in-house legal practice
- Postgraduate qualifications in a relevant discipline
Mandatory Requirements: - Must be able to access information controlled under the US International Traffic of Arms Regulations (ITAR).
- Must be able to obtain and maintain an Australian security clearance.
