Hours and place of work: This is a full-time position. Given the critical nature of this role and its impact on company culture, it must be undertaken primarily with the rest of the team, in our Wellington office.
Reports to: Vice President – Tahi
Team: Tahi – the team dedicated to ensuring delivery of OpenStar’s next generation fusion energy device (Tahi).

About the role:
This is a six-month fixed term contract, in preparation for Series A.
The software team develops and maintains systems to support our mission, including critical control systems, scientific instrumentation, and internal business tools. Your role will be to lead the team responsible for these systems; maintaining features, fixing bugs, and developing future software systems in line with the needs of the business.
OpenStar’s ambitious engineering requires an insatiable appetite for pushing forward the cutting edge of technology. Due to the nature of high-tech research and development, you will be required to work in a widely interdisciplinary environment with a huge range of skillsets. In your role as Lead Software Engineer, you are responsible for managing how the software team engages with other technical teams, ensuring that this translates into reliable and considered project delivery to meet all requirements. This will require excellent communication skills and experience with technical requirements gathering and negotiation.
