Provides prescribed medical treatment and personal care services to ill, injured, convalescent, and disabled persons in all area of the hospital, including inpatient and outpatient.
PRIMARY JOB DUTIES:
1.Adheres to Healthcare’s Mission, Vision and Values.

3.Maintains the standards of nursing care and implements the policies and procedures of the hospital and Nursing Department in accordance with the scope of practice for the state of Nebraska.
4.Assesses the patient’s condition and identifies nursing diagnosis in order to set goals; prescribes appropriate nursing actions to meet those goals and the physical, psychological, social and rehabilitative needs of the patient, including discharge planning.
5.Reports pertinent observations and reactions regarding patients to the appropriate person, (i.e. physician, charge nurse and /or nursing supervisor) and records those observations accurately and concisely.
6.Assists team members in giving care to patients, or administers direct care as assigned.
7.Initiates and updates individualized nursing care plans.
8.Administers medication and performs treatments to assigned patients as per policy/procedure and documents time, type, amount, etc. on patients’ chart.
9.Directs, supervises and evaluates nursing care provided to patients.
10.Assist physicians with special tests and procedures such as thoracentesis, lumbar tap, etc.
11.Participates in economical utilization of supplies and ensures that equipment is maintained in a clean and safe manner.
12.Ability to operate computer system for tasks including but not limited to admit, discharge, order entry, and document removal. Seeks out additional training as needed.
13.Participates in orientation of new personnel.
14.Establishes and maintains communication and utilizes teaching opportunities with patients, and other significant individuals as provided by Educational Services.
15.Assists with or institutes emergency measures for sudden adverse development in patients such as cardiac arrest.
16.Participates in the maintenance of a clean and safe environment. Follows standard precautions as prescribed in hospital policies/procedures.
17.Participates actively in committees for improvement of nursing care.
18.Consistently supports the compliance program and participates in ongoing monitoring of activities with respect to compliance related issues.
19.Keeps all patient information confidential and respects patients’ privacy.
20.Communicates with patients, visitors, and staff in a courteous manner.
21.Observes, evaluates, and documents care given as well as the patients’ physical and emotional condition, response to drugs or treatments, including side effects, desired response, and contraindications according to hospital policy/procedures.
22.Allocates time spent in the various areas of care daily when clocking out.
23.Attends staff meetings, in-services, workshops and seminars, other appropriate learning experiences, maintaining ongoing education to upgrade professional skills and ensure nursing licensure.
24.Activates fire or disaster plans in the event of actual fire, disaster, or drill.
25.Makes patient referrals to social service as needed.
26.Assures continuity of nursing care through such vehicles as shift report and nursing care plans.
27.Makes frequent rounds on patients to assess any changes in condition.
28.Informs immediate supervisor of needed supplies and equipment or malfunctioning equipment.
29.Maintains an attractive and comfortable environment for patients with special consideration to cleanliness of room.
30.Has ability to work with a variety of patients, regardless of various racial, ethnic or sociological background or disability.
31.May be assigned as staffing requires to all areas of care including Medical/Surgical, Skilled Care, ICU/CCU, Obstetrical, Nursery, Emergency Room, PAR, or OB Services in addition to above duties and responsibilities.
32.As part of your job function you will need to access Patient Health Information for treatment, hospital operations or payment purposes. See hospital department policy and procedure for access granted for this job function.
33.Abides by the policies and procedures of the facility. Standards of conduct in the Compliance Plan and participates in ongoing monitoring of activities with respect to compliance, and abides by the Service Excellence Standards.
34.Attends and participates in departmental meetings / in-services, quality improvement program, etc.
35.Performs other duties as assigned.
- Minimum 2 years experience
- Valid State of Nebraska Nursing license or compact license
- Current BLS, ACLS, NALS, and PALS required
- TNCC and NRP preferred
