JOB SUMMARY AND SCOPE
The Director of Information Technology is responsible for installing and maintaining computer
hardware, software, and networks for the hospital system. The Director of Information Technology also
serves as the hospital’s System Security Officer. The System Security Officer is responsible for the
overall security and confidentiality of the hospital’s computer systems.
Degree in Computer Science or the equivalent on-the-job training of at least 10 years.
Minimum of 5 years’ Supervisory experience.
Excellent organizational and communication skills.
The manager must maintain strict confidentiality in all areas of hospital business.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Manage information technology and computer systems by planning, organizing, directing,
facilitating, controlling, and evaluating the operations of information systems and electronic data
Manage the application and inventory architecture, lifecycle, and monitoring, by way of managing
execution of needed key tasks by managing the team.
Facilitate the IT strategy and communicate its implications as part of status meetings to Executive
Steer the IT governance committee, ensure proper communication of projects, and provide
knowledge of IT needs to the team.
Participate in an EMR implementation and the support/maintenance process post go-live.
Assist with a formal, hospital security framework including HIPAA and personal information, and
maintain the needs as Security Officer.
Develop and implement departmental and hospital wide policies and procedures that can address
electronic data processing, computer systems operations and development, general IT controls and

Manage, supervise, and train department employees, as needed.
Manage IT related vendor relationships.
Ensure technology is accessible and equipped with current hardware, software, and corresponding

Monitor and maintain technology to ensure maximum access with corresponding security measures.
Research and propose enhancements to the computer systems software and hardware as needed;
communicate potential needs through governance framework.
Maintain departmental compliance with all applicable accreditation standards, as well as all
applicable federal, state and local statutes, ordinances, laws, rules and regulations.
Ensure that all department staff members maintain compliance with all hospital and departmental
policies and procedures.
Management of quality improvement and assurance activities.
Demonstrate a clear understanding of, and commitment to, the hospital’s mission, vision and values
as well as the service excellence standards while completing all tasks and responsibilities.
Adheres to the organizational leadership profile.
Reliable attendance and punctuality.
Performs duties in a safe manner, in compliance with all safety policies and procedures

Develops and implements appropriate quality improvements for the department.
Develops quality initiative projects and the methods necessary for initiating, testing, data
collection, analysis, and reporting the effectiveness of the project.
Establishes indicators to monitor departmental service in response to complaints, identified
problems, variances, sentinel events, or new services as well as patient outcome oriented
indicators for high volume and/or high-risk services.
Reports all Quality Improvement activities, measurements and results per the established
Participates in the annual review of the Quality Improvement/Patient Safety Program.
Participates as a member of functional and/or process improvement team as appropriate to position
Provides Quality Improvement orientation, training, and continuing education for all departmental
Involves all departmental staff members in the Quality Improvement Program’s plans and processes.
