Job Description
Responsible for daily and overall operation of assigned units, including staff performance, patient care processes and outcomes, patient/family satisfaction, and prudent resource management.
PRINCIPLE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Continually assesses processes and effectiveness of overall patient care on the unit
Selects and supervises unit staff
Monitors and evaluates staff performance/competency on an ongoing basis and in collaboration
with the employee:
o Recognizes employee’s strengths
o Coaches up
o Identifies employee’s work-related needs and goals
o Develops performance improvement plans, as needed
o Initiate and follow through with disciplinary processes if necessary
Identifies and develops plans to address staff learning/competency improvement needs
Develops work schedules, including call rotation and resolves conflicts with scheduling:
o Collaborates with Director to assess overall staffing patterns
Acts as a clinical resource for staff
Develops unit-specific policies, procedures, and clinical competencies using evidence-based standards of care
Prepares and monitors unit budget(s)/productivity. Identifies cost-effective systems needed to support the business of the department, taking into account business trends, resource availability, and changes in patient mix
Interacts with patients, seeks staff input, and analyzes unit patient satisfaction data to identify areas for improvement
Ensures unit performance conforms with hospital-wide quality and patient safety goals
Develops, monitors, and evaluates unit-specific quality improvement indicators, in collaboration with Quality Division
Develops and maintains effective working relationships with employees, physicians, vendors, other departments and members of the healthcare team
Facilitates participation of unit staff in evaluation of new products and equipment, as appropriate/requested
Investigates and addresses unit-specific complaints, seeks assistance from Director and/or Chief Nursing Officer when indicated
Clinical duties:
- Prepares and informs patients of exam procedures and obtains any necessary consent forms
- Identifies patients using the prescribed method
- Verifies patient history prior to exam
- Assesses the patient’s condition and selects the appropriate instrumentation for the exam
- Cleans and sets up exam rooms, ensuring all necessary equipment and supplies are ready
- Oversees restocking rooms and an inventory of supplies as needed
- Transfers and positions the patient safely and properly for the exam
- Observes and monitors patient’s condition and reactions to exam
- Provides protection for patient, self, and others in accordance with prescribed safety standards and protective devices
- Uses proper sterile technique
- Completes written records and documentation
- Completes daily work in a timely fashion within exam time-window
- Uses RIS/PAC’s effectively to input, order, edit, or cancel exams
- Inputs patient data, charges, procedures, drugs administered, and prepares reports
- Uses Power Works effectively to input, order, edit or cancel exams

EDUCATION/CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSES/DEGREES
- Current Registered Nurse licensure in the State of Oregon or satisfactory completion of formal specific training in the approved Imaging Technology program, as relevant to assigned modality with current registration by the State of Oregon
- Registered Nurse:
Licensed to practice as a Registered Nurse in the state of Oregon
American Heart Association Healthcare Provider Basic Life Support (BLS) or must be obtained by the last day of the month after the 60-day grace period
American Heart Association Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) or must be obtained by the last day of the month after the 90-day grace period
Bachelor’s Degree required
Master’s Degree preferred
Specialty certification in area of responsibility preferred - Radiology Technician:
Satisfactory completion of formal specific training in the approved Imaging Technology Program, as relevant to assigned modality (Copy of academic degree/transcript required upon hire if performing Moderate Complexity Testing)
Requires current registration with the Oregon Board of Medical Imaging (OBMI)
American Heart Association Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) or obtain within 90 days of hire
American Heart Association Healthcare Provider Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required upon date of hire
Current ARRT (R)
Bachelor’s degree in related field preferred
Additional advanced certification preferred
EXPERIENCE
- Five years’ experience in acute care hospital in past 10 years
- Two years managerial or leadership experience in past 5 years
- Two years’ experience with cardiovascular procedures in a cardiac catheterization lab required
Physical/Mental/Environmental Requirements
- Able to stand, walk, bend, squat, reach, and stretch frequently
- Possess physical agility and adequate reaction time to respond quickly and appropriately to unexpected patient care needs
- Adequate hearing and visual acuity, including adequate color vision
- Requires fine motor skills, adequate eye-hand coordination, and ability to grasp and handle objects
- Able to use proper body mechanics to assist patients in ambulating, transferring in and out of bed, chair or wheelchair
- May be required to lift up to 75 pounds
- Must use standard precautions due to threat of exposure to blood and bodily fluids
- Ability to communicate effectively through reading, writing, and speaking in person or on telephone
- Requires significant use of personal computer, phone and general office equipment
