The Medical Technologist performs standard routine, complex, automated and manual lab techniques without direct supervision.
Insures proper functioning of lab equipment by performing preventative and corrective maintenance, and troubleshooting basic instrument malfunctions.
Calibrates and assesses the accuracy of lab equipment; performs, evaluates, and records quality control measures and institutes corrective action as appropriate.
Assists in maintaining inventory and supplies; performs phlebotomy using age specific techniques; collects, prepares and determines acceptability of specimens.
Prioritizes assignment of test results and coordinates general work flow.
Recognizes normal, abnormal or unexpected results, errors and problems with patient test results; evaluates, interprets and reports test results.
Observes principles of data security/patient confidentiality.
Assists in training of new assistants and technologists.
Supervises Laboratory Assistants.
Assists in evaluation of new methods and equipment.
Interacts with other healthcare workers to solve problems and interpret patient lab results; attends and participates in department meetings.
Candidate must have a Bachelors and ASCP certification.
Successful candidate must be a generalist with experience in blood bank.
Willing to look at newer grads.
Person will need to work towards there Nevada supervisor license.
Those hours unsupervised mean the successful candidate must have a Medical Technologist credential (not MLT) that allows them to qualify for the General Supervisor license for Nevada.
The GS license further requires at least 3 years of full time experience as it takes a GS license to work independently in Nevada.
Shift is primarily 12:30pm-11pm(10 hour shift). The employee’s schedule may be adjusted to earlier or later shifts, including 3rd shift depending on vacations and such.
The techs normally work 4 ten-hour days per week, to include every other weekend.
Holidays are generally done by signup; the tech will be required to work a certain number of hours during summer (Memorial Day, July 4, or Labor Day) or winter holidays (Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Year’s) but has some ability to choose preferred days and shifts.
Other holidays are generally assigned to whomever didn’t work the last one, unless there’s a regular shift rotation in place.
There are 18 people in the lab, 8 medical technologists and 10 phlebotomists.
The phlebotomy coverage is 24/7/365. Techs do not normally stick, but if there are multiple emergencies going on it could become necessary. Techs do not currently have to do chain of custody urine drug screens.
Equipment is primarily Siemens; Dimension EXLs and Centaur in Chemistry, Sysmex in hematology and coagulation, Clinitek Advantus in urinalysis.
Facility is offering a salary range that starts with 60K with 3 years experience up to 75K with 15 years experience.
Facility will offer a full benefit package that includes some relocation and a $5000 sign-on paid out when starting and an additional $5000 paid out as retention.
