Role Overview:

To oversee the management of a group of 6 Care Homes across Staffordshire and South Manchester, taking responsibility for the performance of the quailty of care being delivered as well as acting as credible Leader.

Main responsibilities of the role:

• Embed the company’s corporate values throughout the area, understand and demonstrate the values and embed these across your portfolio of homes.
• Operations Managers are required to carry out monitoring and support visits to their allocated homes a minimum of once per month.
• Report to the Operations Director regarding all aspects of the day to day running of the homes.
• Monitor quality and compliance and take appropriate action to ensure areas of concern are addressed. Follow up on any external and / or regulatory visits and support the Home Managers to make the necessary improvements.
• Provide support for Home Managers to enable them to achieve the best possible standards.
• Induct new Home Managers, complete probation period reviews and carry out supervisions / performance reviews at the prescribed frequency.
• Lead Projects as required that may cross the whole business and ensure proper planning, management and evaluation of such projects.
• Continue to develop and ensure that the service is innovative, cost effective and fit for purpose.
• Provide accurate performance / business information to the Executive Management Team.
• Share, embrace and engage Home Managers with new ideas and industry best practice.

Finance

• Support the business in achieving the financial objectives through the managers business plans and actively participate in improving the service with the manager through best practice initiatives and new ideas/innovation.
• To facilitate a culture of business awareness in regard to occupancy and to focus Home Managers in reaching their targets.
• Responsible for sense checking expenditure and ensuring the home remains within budget.
• Create a culture of financial awareness and coach all managers to continually challenge costs and adhere to forecasts.
• Implementation of the company’s care and quality strategy.
• Support the Home Managers to effectively manage payroll costs and eradicate the use of agency staff.

Care Provision

• Have oversight of care plans to ensure that they meet the needs of the residents.
• Facilitate an environment of continual learning and development to ensure that all needs of the residents are met.
• Ensure that care provision is compliant with all legislation, is person centered and respectful of individuality.
• Monitor the quality-of-care provision, challenge practices that fall below the required standard and support teams to continually improve the service provided.
• Facilitate an environment that is safe, harmonious and that fosters the physical and emotional wellbeing of the residents through emphasis being placed on teambuilding and individual growth.
• Encourage a supportive employee culture through questioning best practice and sharing knowledge.
• Obtain and apply industry knowledge by visiting other care providers and share this knowledge with the Business Managers and relevant stakeholders of the business.
• Liaise closely with Operations Director and other Operations Manager to ensure that care objectives are exceeded.
• Assist in monitoring all complaints ensuring the Company Policy is implemented and that any corrective measures are taken and are successful. To undertake any investigations the Operations Director requests and provide a written report.
• Monitor care to include incidents / accidents / wounds / weights etc. and therefore offer advice and assess action taken and evidenced.
• To Assist in the Monitoring of all internal audits.

Staffing & HR

• Ensure that the staff and resources are deployed in a way that best assist the demands of the services.
• To facilitate a culture of supportive, collative, and responsible care within each home
• Coach Business Managers through all Welfare, Employee Relations, and grievances to ensure best practice and enhance the employment partnership through open and honest communication and recording.
• To adhere to all policies on best practice and use innovative ways to embed these in Homes.
• Continually focusing on reducing agency costs and building a supportive team.
• Build a management team through professional and in-house training with a culture of continual learning.
• Monitor training needs and work with the Learning and Development Manager to ensure training compliance.

Marketing

• Embed a culture that promotes a positive personal / professional profile within the local community.
• Be a promoter of Best Practice throughout your area and ensure Home Managers mentor and support each other to follow corporate procedure, volunteer process improvements and engender a supportive culture.
• Engage with and actively motivate the Activity Lifestyle Facilitators to ensure that they facilitate activities, engage across the company and with the local community.
• Ensure homes are proactively generating enquiries and following up on them in an appropriate and timely manner.

Skills and Experience Required

• Ability to manage set and monitor budgets effectively with an understanding of social care cost drivers.
• A continual desire for professional and in-house learning.
• Be able to demonstrate excellent leadership and management qualities and have experience of working in a supervisory role within a social care environment.
• Possess a ‘can do’ attitude and be able to influence and persuade key stakeholders.
• A professional qualification relating to social care or evidence of wide-ranging knowledge about the legislation strategy and needs of vulnerable groups gained through substantial experience.
• Be a good team player who possesses strong relationship building skills along with excellent people skills and demonstrate skills that can lead and motivate a team.
• Thorough understanding of the legislation and policy direction that underpins the provision of social care.
• Must be able to adopt a flexible approach to work and hours required to deliver the requirements of the role. This many include early evenings and some weekend work.
• Strong and effective negotiation skills.
• Strong and effective planning and organisational skills.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Good IT skills essential.
