The Senior Property Accountant will report to the Manager, Property Accounting and is responsible for carrying out accounting functions, preparing reports and assisting with Property financial enquiries. The Senior Property Accountant will maintain accounting practices to ensure accurate and reliable data necessary for business operations. This position may support our both east & west coast business units and may require modified hours.
Responsibilities
Prepare monthly reporting packages for management review including: Balance Sheet, Income Statement, Variance Analysis and Account Reconciliations
Record routine journal entries at month-end including: Accruals, Mortgages, Prepaids
Review system generated journal entries at month-end for accuracy and trends
Liaise with property site staff and the Property Administration team to ensure full understanding of transactions impacting the operating results
Review coding of invoices to ensure accurate posting in the general ledger
Prepare and maintain necessary continuity schedules
Prepare GST/HST filing and reporting for Joint Venture properties
Prepare cash flow reporting and cash funding request for Joint Venture properties
Perform duties involved in acquisition/disposition of assets
Assist with audit requests
Identify and analyze problems and recommend appropriate actions
Take on special projects as delegated
Maintain an understanding of property specific processes and maintenance of pertinent information relating to specific properties or processes and bring forward recommendations for process improvements and system enhancements
Other related duties as required
Experience and Qualifications:
Three or more years’ experience in full cycle Real Estate accounting. Experience in Residential is considered an asset
Accounting diploma or degree and working towards CPA
Experience in Yardi or other large ERP is considered an asset
Attention to detail, high degree of accuracy and strong adherence to established deadlines
Organized and efficient with strong multi-task skills and the ability to work under pressure with changing priorities
Advanced skills in Microsoft Excel and Word
Proactive and self-motivated individual who is goals and results driven
Ability to work effectively individually, with minimal direction, and as part of a team
Excellent oral and written communication skills
Strong analytical skills
