We are currently recruiting an experienced Senior Project Engineer – Electrical to join the site-based Project Delivery team supporting Rio Tinto Weipa Bauxite Operations at Amrun.
This is a 12-month opportunity suited to an experienced Electrical Project Engineer with a strong background in site-based project delivery, construction and commissioning, ideally within mining, resources or heavy industry.
Due to the FIFO arrangements for this position, candidates based in Brisbane or Cairns are preferred.
Working across a varied portfolio of multidisciplinary projects, you'll take ownership of electrical scopes from planning and procurement through construction, commissioning and project close-out.

The Role As the
Senior Project Engineer – Electrical, you'll join the site-based Project Delivery team and lead the execution of electrical scopes across a range of projects supporting the Weipa Bauxite Operations.
You'll work closely with contractors, Construction Leads, engineering teams and key stakeholders to ensure projects are delivered safely, efficiently and in accordance with technical, quality, schedule and cost requirements.
Your responsibilities will span the full project lifecycle, including
contractor management, technical queries, procurement, estimating, scheduling, cost control, forecasting, quality assurance, construction and commissioning.
Current Project Scope You'll support a varied portfolio of projects, including:
- Lighting and power supply for culverts on the Amrun Haul Road
- Radio tower installation
- Accommodation module installations
- Minor infrastructure installations
- Tailings Dam decant pump decommissioning and commissioning
This position will suit an engineer who is comfortable managing multiple electrical work fronts within an operational site environment.
Key Responsibilities Your responsibilities will include:
- Leading contractors and Construction Leads across electrical scopes of work
- Coordinating and overseeing electrical construction activities
- Managing QA for onsite electrical works, including construction verification inspections
- Reviewing technical designs, drawings, specifications and project documentation
- Managing and responding to technical queries
- Coordinating activities and interfaces across multiple engineering disciplines
- Coordinating procurement of materials, equipment and project resources
- Supporting estimating and project planning activities
- Identifying and managing project risks throughout construction and commissioning
- Developing and managing project schedules
- Leading project cost tracking and forecasting
- Supporting financial reporting and cost control
- Monitoring production performance and project KPIs
- Coordinating testing and commissioning activities
- Managing project close-out and as-constructed documentation
- Ensuring contractors and project activities comply with site requirements
- Maintaining a strong focus on health, safety and quality throughout project delivery
What We're Looking For To be successful, you'll bring:
- Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering
- Approximately 5–8 years' relevant site-based project execution experience
- Strong electrical construction, testing and commissioning experience
- Demonstrated experience delivering projects within operational site environments
- Strong knowledge of LV electrical distribution systems
- HV electrical distribution experience highly regarded
- Experience delivering electrical scopes within multidisciplinary projects
- Ability to interpret drawings, scopes of work, technical specifications and applicable standards
- Strong contract and contractor management experience
- Previous experience in a similar client-side Project Engineering role
- Experience with procurement, scheduling, cost tracking and forecasting
- Strong quality assurance and construction verification capabilities
- High level of computer literacy, including Microsoft Excel and Word
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Excellent leadership, communication and stakeholder management capabilities
- Ability to work autonomously and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team
- Flexibility around FIFO travel days and project requirements
- Strong commitment to workplace health and safety
Previous experience within
mining, resources, heavy industry or major operational facilities will be highly regarded.
Due to the FIFO arrangements, applicants currently based in Brisbane or Cairns are preferred for this opportunity.
About You You're an experienced Electrical Project Engineer who understands what it takes to deliver projects successfully in a
live, site-based environment.
You're equally comfortable reviewing technical documentation, walking down construction works, managing contractors, resolving technical issues and keeping a close eye on schedule, cost and project risk.
Most importantly, you can take ownership of your electrical scopes and drive them safely through
construction, testing, commissioning and close-out while effectively managing multiple stakeholders and competing priorities.
