A2B Australia is part of the ComfortDelGro Australia (CDC) Group, the country’s leading taxi network and a major provider of mobility, technology, and payment solutions.
Through our iconic brands 13cabs, Silver Service, Swan Taxis and Cabcharge we deliver end‑to‑end transport experiences, from booking and dispatch through to safe, reliable travel and seamless payment. Our services support corporate, community and disability customers nationwide.
Our network is Australia’s largest, with 7,000+ vehicles and 11,500 drivers, supported by contact centres, technology hubs and in‑field support teams. We power drivers, operators and passengers with dispatch, navigation, in‑car tech, apps and payment solutions across Australia and globally.
We’re now looking for a Principal .NET Developer to act as the technical North Star for our engineering organisation someone who can shape architecture, uplift capability, and still enjoy getting their hands dirty when it counts.
This is not a delivery management role.
This is a deep technical leadership role for someone who wants to influence how large‑scale systems are designed, built, and evolved.
The Role As Principal .NET Developer, you will own the architectural integrity and long‑term health of A2B’s .NET platforms. Sitting at the intersection of hands‑on engineering and strategic system design, you’ll guide teams through complexity, modernisation, and scale.
You’ll define standards, make high‑impact technical decisions, and mentor engineers while remaining close enough to the code to lead by example.
What You’ll Be Responsible For Technical & Architectural Leadership
- Own and evolve the architectural direction of A2B’s .NET platforms, ensuring solutions are scalable, secure, and sustainable
- Define and govern architecture patterns, technical standards, and non‑functional requirements
- Make, document, and communicate complex architecture decisions, including long‑term trade‑offs
- Act as an escalation point for high‑risk or complex technical challenges
Principal‑Level Engineering Contribution - Design and build critical system components using .NET / .NET Core
- Set the benchmark for code quality, maintainability, testing, and security
- Diagnose and resolve systemic platform issues impacting stability, performance, or scalability
- Lead modernisation initiatives, complex refactors, and technical‑debt reduction
Cloud & Platform Authority - Define best‑practice use of Microsoft Azure (App Services, Azure Functions, Service Bus, managed data platforms)
- Ensure solutions meet expectations for reliability, security, observability, and cost efficiency
- Champion cloud‑native and operationally sound design patterns
Data & Database Stewardship - Provide leadership across SQL Server and data platform design
- Define standards for data modelling, schema design, and performance optimisation
- Guide approaches to data integrity and reliability in high‑volume transactional systems
Engineering Standards & Capability Uplift - Define, maintain, and evolve engineering standards and architectural principles
- Mentor and coach engineers through design sessions, code reviews, and technical guidance
- Uplift engineering maturity across teams through clarity, consistency, and example
- Promote secure‑by‑design thinking and proactive risk management
Cross‑Functional Partnership - Work closely with Product, Architecture, and Delivery to shape technically sound solutions
- Translate business problems into pragmatic, scalable technical approaches
- Communicate complex technical concepts clearly to both technical and non‑technical audiences
About You You’re a senior technical leader who enjoys influence without ego — confident making tough calls, comfortable with ambiguity, and respected for your depth.
Experience & Capability - 8+ years’ experience in senior or principal software engineering roles
- Deep expertise in .NET / .NET Core within enterprise environments
- Proven ownership of architecture for large platforms or distributed systems
- Strong experience defining and governing engineering standards and best practices
- Extensive hands‑on experience with Microsoft Azure
- Deep knowledge of cloud‑native patterns: resilience, observability, security, cost optimisation
- Strong experience with SQL Server, including performance tuning and high‑volume systems
- Demonstrated leadership of modernisation and refactoring initiatives
- Strong mentoring capability and a passion for uplifting others
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to influence through technical credibility
Qualifications Essential - Tertiary qualification in Computer Science, Software Engineering, IT, or equivalent industry experience
Desirable - Azure certifications (Solutions Architect Expert, Developer Associate)
- Architecture or engineering leadership certifications (e.g. TOGAF)
Why Join A2B? - Collaborate with experienced engineers in a commercially grounded environment
- Help shape the future of mobility technology in Australia
