Job Description
SYSTEMS DESIGNER Summary The candidate will be expected to contribute to the planning, design and field oversight of installation of large, complex telecommunications and electronic safety and security system projects that include structured low-voltage cabling systems, access control, video surveillance, digital video storage, intrusion detection, command and control systems and physical security technologies. Candidate is expected to demonstrate proficiency with the development and creation of construction drawings and specifications. Candidate must also have experience contributing to the management and oversight of contractor’s installation work, testing, training, and project close out. Primary job role will be key contributor to project related tasks and deliverables and will be expected to lead portions of the project design scope throughout the project lifecycle.
Job Roles and Duties * RESEARCH AND REQUIREMENT ANALYSIS:
Researches and analyzes data, such as manufacturer products, specifications, and manuals to determine feasibility of design or application. Applies analysis to design engineering drawings and specifications.
Participates in requirements analysis, requirements definition, requirements management, functional analysis, performance analysis, system design, oversight of installation and systems integration.
Plans sub tasks for activities described above. Supports project manager and aides in creation of work breakdown structures to fulfill project-based goals. Some scope documentation and estimated effort to complete responsible portions of project scope to Project Manager, Program Director and Principals.
* PROJECT DESIGN:
Develop detailed engineering design documents including drawings, specifications and master plan level reports.
Create, update and maintain detailed construction estimates and budgets and apply to project design components.
Supports the generation of technical engineering designs by using the appropriate standards, processes, procedures, and tools throughout the project development life cycle.
Identifies, analyzes and resolves system design issues and weaknesses to support quality assurance and control internal methodologies and workflows. Present possibilities to remediate or improve. Supports internal team members by reviewing designs and provide constructive feedback. Apply internal QA/QC standards to project related documents.
* CONSTRUCTION OVERSIGHT:
Ability to monitor the construction phase of the project working with contractors and integrators on the proper installation and implementation of the design.
Review and provide response (with oversight), project related construction documents including: * Shop drawing, wiring diagrams, product data field submittal review * Review, investigate and respond construction requests for information (RFI’s) and action items. Provide analysis to project manager on any cost implications and/or required modifications to project design documents.
Inspect and provide detailed field reports during construction of telecommunications and security design components.
Validate project requirements and design documents are adhered to during construction and installation.
Provide internal QA/QC reports validating base design requirements are fulfilled during project closeout.
* GENERAL DUTIES:
Provide design, planning and consulting services for Data/Telecom/Security infrastructure for a wide range of building types including: Healthcare facilities, Aviation Buildings, Criminal Justice (jails and courthouses), Research Centers, Educational facilities and various other institutional type buildings.
Contributes to projects through the full lifecycle; from preliminary concepts and schematics, engineering and design, through construction administration
Actively participates in professional organizations and/or client groups where the technical reputation and image of the firm may be enhanced
Required to maintain firm conformance to standard practices and procedures of design engineering documentation as outlined in CSI, AIA and other design industry standards
Receives instructions, assignments and guidance from immediate supervisor. Works under general supervision.
Contact with multiple internal and external work groups.
Ability to work and coordinate design requirements with multi-team environment including architects and other engineering disciplines. Some contact with clients and external project design disciplines (architecture, civil, MEP, structural, etc.).
Create and support yearly Company, Project, Team and Personal Enrichment related Goals. Document and track progress throughout the year by applying Company Performance Management workflows, requirements and systems.
Required Skills & Qualifications * TECHNICAL:
Bachelor's degree in systems engineering or minimum of 2-4 years experience as Systems Designer
Extensive knowledge of systems engineering concepts, principles, and theories:
Extensive knowledge of the latest telecommunications and electronic safety and security technologies and applications currently being deployed on major construction projects.
Ability to write, review and maintain construction level specifications for assigned design scope of work.
Expertise applying technical standards and documenting technical design requirements.
Keeps abreast of telecommunications and security industry trends, products and technologies.
Solid awareness of business objectives and Engineering role in achieving
Extensive knowledge of requirements management and system modeling tools
Extensive knowledge of engineering documentation for construction tools (AutoCAD, Revit, Navisworks etc.)
Solid proficiency in Microsoft Office applications
Grasp and apply new information quickly and able to handle more complex assignments
Shows initiative on assignments, exercises independent judgment and professionally executes projects with little direction .

Job Type: Full-time Salary: $60,000.00 to $80,000.00 /year
