Job Title: Casework Officer
Type: Temporary / Contract
Location: Fully Remote
Salary: £269.21 per day PAYE / £369.98 per day Umbrella
Hours: Full-time 37 hours
 
BRC are working closely with a Local Authority who are looking for an experienced Casework Officer to support the management of complex SEND cases, including tribunal appeals, mediation and assessment reviews.
 
This role will involve working closely with families, schools, legal representatives and internal teams to ensure cases are managed professionally, sensitively and in line with statutory requirements and timescales.
 
This role involves:

• Managing a caseload of complex SEND cases, including tribunal appeals and mediation.
• Coordinating responses to SEND tribunal appeals, including preparing documentation and gathering evidence.
• Supporting mediation meetings between families and the Local Authority.
• Ensuring all actions and responses comply with the SEND Code of Practice, tribunal procedures and statutory deadlines.
• Liaising with parents/carers, legal representatives, schools and professionals.
• Providing advice and guidance to colleagues on tribunal and mediation processes.
• Maintaining accurate case records and monitoring outcomes.
• Identifying themes, learning points and opportunities for service improvement.

 
Duties:

• Coordinate and manage SEND tribunal and mediation cases.
• Prepare reports, correspondence, legal documentation and supporting evidence.
• Work collaboratively with internal teams and external stakeholders.
• Support the resolution of disagreements through mediation where appropriate.
• Monitor statutory deadlines and ensure responses are completed within required timescales.
• Maintain accurate and confidential case records.
• Provide regular updates on case progress and outcomes.
• Contribute to effective and consistent decision-making across the service.

 
Requirements:

• Experience working within a SEND, education, social care, Local Authority or casework environment.
• Strong understanding of SEND legislation, processes and tribunal procedures.
• Experience managing complex and sensitive cases.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Strong negotiation, conflict resolution and advocacy skills.
• Excellent attention to detail and organisational skills.
• Ability to manage competing priorities and work effectively under pressure.
• Ability to communicate sensitively and professionally with families and a range of stakeholders.
