Job Title - DTAN Lead Data Engineer

Key duties and responsibilities
- Provide technical leadership and guidance to data delivery teams through design reviews, technical advice, and implementation best practices.
- Lead the technical implementation of new data assets from analysis and design through to deployment and operational support.
- Review and enhance data delivery frameworks, development standards, and engineering practices to improve delivery efficiency and platform performance.
- Conduct peer reviews of code, data models, and technical designs to ensure compliance with established standards.
- Analyse business requirements and translate them into scalable technical solutions and data assets.
- Collaborate with business stakeholders, data consumers, developers, testers, and support teams to deliver enterprise data solutions.
- Facilitate knowledge transfer and capability uplift activities across the Data Services team.
- Contribute to backlog prioritisation, planning activities, and continuous improvement initiatives.
Criteria

- Demonstrated experience developing, auditing, reviewing, and supporting solutions within enterprise data warehouse platforms such as MS SQL, Teradata, Snowflake, Redshift, Databricks, or equivalent technologies.
- Advanced programming capability, including strong experience with SQL and one or more languages such as Python, SAS, R, or Java.
- Strong expertise in SQL development, optimisation, troubleshooting, and reverse engineering existing code.
- Proven ability to interpret data models, technical specifications, and solution designs.
- Experience working within DevOps environments and applying contemporary software development and delivery practices.
- Demonstrated experience using version control tools and supporting structured release management processes.
- Minimum four years' experience in a similar data engineering, data development, or enterprise data warehouse role.
- Tertiary qualifications in Computer Science, Information Technology, Mathematics, Statistics, Data Science, or a related discipline.
SFIA Skills Sought: The development of models to represent and communicate data requirements and to enable organisations to understand their data assets and the relationships between real-world entities. The investigation, analysis and scoping of data requirements to support the development of software systems, data integration and data retrieval activities. The iteration, review and maintenance of data requirements and data models.
DTAN Level 5: Sets standards for data modelling and design tools and techniques, advises on their application, and ensures compliance. Manages the investigation of corporate data requirements, and co-ordinates the application of data analysis, design and modelling techniques, based upon a detailed understanding of the corporate information requirements, in order to establish, modify or maintain data structures and their associated components (entity descriptions, relationship descriptions, attribute definitions). Manages the iteration, review and maintenance of data requirements and data models.
