Duty Statement - Safety Engineer
Systems and Software Engineering - Safety Management

Service/Tasks:

• Conduct system safety analysis, development, and support Verification & Validation (V&V) as required to support a System Safety Program.
• Planning and conduct of System Safety Reviews and subsequent Systems Safety Working Groups.
• Provide advice and guidance on system safety engineering analysis techniques, processes, and software assurance necessary for design and implementation.
• Conduct reviews of contract deliverables as required. Outputs:

Standards:

• Accountable for exercising assigned Technical Authority delegations.
• Provided services by personnel holding tertiary qualifications or relevant industry and/or domain work experience, practical experience in the development of a System Safety Program, Safety Management Plans, and ability to coordinate, direct and evaluate system safety activities in a sustainment environment.
• System Safety Program plans incorporate best practice safety engineering and safety management principles applicable in acquisition and sustainment environment.
• Services are to be provided commensurate with relevant Australian and International Standards, regulations, and Defence requirements.
• Evaluate technical and design packages, and where required, scope, plan and review the implementation of actions from a safety perspective (in collaboration with support contractors).

Qualifications:

• Engineers Australia Professional Engineering Stage 2 competencies, that is:
  • A four-year engineering degree (Australian Qualification Framework level 7) in a relevant engineering discipline that is recognised under the Washington Accord.
  • Recognition as a Chartered Professional Engineer or equivalent; and A minimum one-year experience within a materiel system safety program.

• DSS - 2.5 Systems and Software Engineering - Safety Management - L3
• SFIA Skill Code - Systems and software lifecycle engineering (SLEN) - L4
