Our client in ACT or VIC seeks the services of DSS L3 Systems and Software Engineer with NV1 clearance.

Length of Contract - 12 months
Closing Date - 5th November 2025
Key Responsibilities:
Perform critical and complex engineering activities and providing advice in the field of software systems engineering for the project.
Perform the systems/software engineer role in a complex and diverse technological environment.
Develop engineering plans and designs that are produced with, and consumed by, other engineering specialists.
Work with systems architects and engineering management in the design and specification of software-related engineering artefacts.
Support the Engineering team and stakeholders.
Support the wider engineering, project management and commercial activities where systems/software engineering expertise is required.
Monitor and ensure that safety aspects of materiel systems are considered and incorporated into software engineering activities.
Identify and resolve system/software engineering related technical issues and constraints and advise the engineering and project management functions on appropriate courses of action.
Exercise any assigned engineering authorities and any technical regulatory authority delegations.
Work collaboratively to develop and maintain beneficial, effective relationships and negotiate effectively to influence stakeholders and subject matter experts to deliver agreed project outcomes.
Assess, interpret and comply with legislative, policy and regulatory frameworks.
Be accountable for accurate completion of work within defined timeframes and quality requirements within a matrixed, integrated workforce.
Experience Skills Sought:
Intended for a Systems Engineer with a Software background or a Software Engineer with a good foundation in Systems Engineering.
More aligned to a Software Integration type function.
Demonstrated Experience:
Experience as a Systems/Software Engineer with skills in planning, specification & design in multiple phases of a program.
Experience as a Systems/Software Engineer within CASG or similar acquisition environment.
DevSecOps and the Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC).
Analysis, design, review, and delivering high quality engineering documentation to support approvals and materiel delivery.
Initiative, creativity and responsibility to perform a range and variety of complex technical work activities with limited guidance.
Managing technical and integration risks.
Working in complex and challenging environments.
Working in a complex stakeholder system.
Communications related software, and the associated enabling services and infrastructure.
Applying testing and evaluation techniques across the system development life cycle.
Highly effective, formal and informal communication skills including advanced technical writing skills.
Initiative in keeping personal skills up to date, maintaining awareness of industry developments and pursuing continuous improvement opportunities.
Ability to analyse, design, plan, execute, and evaluate work to time, cost and quality targets while assessing and evaluating risk
Essential Experience and / or Qualifications:
Bachelor of Engineering (Electronics/computers/communications/networking or similar) or an equivalent qualification.
More than 8 year's engineering experience and more than 5 years' experience in the field of systems/software engineering.
Understanding of Defence processes and structure.
Very strong written and oral communication skills.
Highly Desirable Experience and / or Qualifications:
A sound understanding of DevSecOps and the Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC).
Experience with the MS Azure environment.
Experience with Linux based operating systems.
Experience working in a Defence CASG engineering and/or project environment.
Postgraduate qualifications or demonstrated equivalent experience in software engineering.
Experience in pre-Acquisition project activities including design, development and tender evaluations.
Experience in the design, development and support of operational military communications and ICT systems.
Knowledge and experience in ICT, engineering, cyber-security and integrated logistic support (ILS) processes and procedures.
Experience with systems safety and cyber security.
