Post: Senior Research Assistant
Contract Period: 12 months
Office location: Wan Chai
Outdoor work is required
Working Hours: Monday to Friday, 9 hours per working day, 0900 - 1800
Qualification Requirements:
(a) A bachelor's degree from a university in Hong Kong, or equivalent, majoring in one of the following subjects: Anthropology, Archaeology, Architectural Conservation, Cultural Studies, Ethnography, Heritage Conservation, History, Humanities, Museum Studies or equivalent;
(b) Level 4 or above in Chinese Language of the HKDSEE, or Grade D or above in Chinese Language and Culture or Chinese Language and Literature of the HKALE, or Level 1 or above in the Use of Chinese paper in the Common Recruitment Examination ("CRE"), or equivalent;
(c) Level 5 or above in English Language of the HKDSEE, or Grade C or above in Use of English of the HKALE, or Grade C or above in English Language of the General Certificate of Education (Advanced Level), or Level 2 in the Use of English paper in the CRE, or equivalent;
(d) An English writing sample on a heritage site or heritage building must be submitted together with the candidate's CV
(e) Good computer knowledge in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Chinese and English word processing skills.
Main Job Responsibility:
(a) To assist in updating and enriching the survey records on pre-1950 and post-1950 buildings in Hong Kong by conducting research and fieldwork;
(b) To assist in conducting desktop research, including collecting, verifying and compiling historical information on the pre-1950 and post-1950 buildings. Research at libraries as well as government and institutional archives for literature reviews, building plans, old maps and photos and other related documents is required;
(c) To assist with coordination of site visits, including liaising between different parties and arranging transportation;
(d) To assist in conducting fieldwork on the pre-1950 and post-1950 buildings, including conducting site visit, photographic recording and oral history interview;
(e) To work with videographer for video recording of individual buildings / structures, and provide input for video editing;
(f) To assist in drafting building appraisals to assess the heritage value of the buildings /structures based on the findings of the research;
(g) To assist in preparing presentation materials, including but not limited to MS, Powerpoint slides, speaking notes, photos and videos, for showcasing the findings of the research; and
(h) To perform any other duties as assigned by Government Representative.
