Freelance Business Developer - EV Charging Infrastructure (2 to 3 days/week)
A company active in the electric vehicle charging infrastructure sector is looking for a freelance Business Developer to support its commercial growth in Belgium.
The mission will focus primarily on developing new opportunities for destination charging locations, including supermarkets, retail parks, shopping destinations, fast-food sites and other high-traffic commercial environments.
This is a hands-on commercial role for someone who knows how to combine business development, site qualification, structured follow-up and deal closing. Beyond identifying leads, the role requires the ability to assess which opportunities are worth pursuing, engage the right stakeholders, build momentum over time and help turn discussions into signed agreements.
The role
You will be responsible for building and progressing a pipeline of opportunities for EV charging infrastructure projects. This includes prospecting new locations and contacts, qualifying the business potential of sites, supporting first commercial proposals and driving opportunities forward through a sometimes lengthy decision-making process.
The role calls for someone who is comfortable both in the field and in the follow-up, someone who can open doors, ask the right questions, assess the quality of an opportunity and keep moving it forward in a pragmatic way.
Main responsibilities
- Identify and develop new commercial opportunities for EV charging infrastructure projects in Belgium
- Prospect and approach relevant stakeholders, including landowners, retailers, operators, developers and commercial real estate contacts
- Build a qualified and actionable pipeline of opportunities
- Carry out first-level site assessments based on practical criteria such as visibility, accessibility, parking capacity, traffic potential and fit with the expected charging use case
- Prioritise the most relevant leads based on commercial potential, feasibility and likelihood of conversion
- Structure and maintain follow-up across opportunities over medium- to long-term sales cycles
- Prepare initial business proposals within defined commercial and investment parameters
- Lead or support commercial discussions and negotiations with the objective of moving projects toward signature
- Coordinate with internal stakeholders involved in project review, validation and implementation
- Keep a clear view of priorities, risks, next steps and pipeline progress
Profile We are looking for a commercially strong and well-organised profile who is able to combine autonomy, judgment and execution.
The ideal candidate will bring:
- Solid experience in business development, B2B sales or commercial project development
- The ability to combine prospecting, qualification, structured follow-up and closing
- A strong results orientation, with the discipline to focus on opportunities that can realistically be converted
- Good commercial judgment and the ability to quickly assess the quality of a site or lead
- Enough seniority to handle discussions independently, while remaining practical and collaborative
- Comfort with longer sales cycles and multi-stakeholder environments
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build credibility with landowners, retail contacts, developers and decision-makers
- An interest in energy, e-mobility, infrastructure or commercial real estate
- Professional fluency in French and Dutch preferred
What success looks like
Success in this role will not be measured by activity alone, but by the ability to create qualified opportunities, keep them moving and convert the right ones into concrete deals.
That means:
- opening the right doors,
- selecting the right opportunities,
- maintaining momentum throughout the process,
- and helping bring commercially relevant projects to signature.
This role is well suited to someone who enjoys being close to the market, knows how to navigate real-world commercial discussions, and is motivated by turning potential into tangible business results.
