Experienced Technical Director required to lead metallurgical plant process furnace and laboratory functions for mining operation in Pacific Islands

Pacific People Solutions, on behalf of our client, have an immediate vacancy for a Technical Director. Our client is a global mining operation and this particular role will be based at their operations in the Pacific Islands.
This is a key leadership role within the business and will have specific accountability through leadership of three direct reports who have responsibility for metallurgical plant process performance, DC furnace integrity and the onsite laboratory function.
Key responsibilities include:
Responsibility for providing effective management and direction of process engineering and technology activities, primarily in the metallurgical process and smelting areas to ensure ramp up goals are met.
Ensuring the plant is operated within the technical design parameters to ensure maximum output and safety.
Implementation of specific projects, programs and initiatives to further enhance furnace integrity.
Maintain strict adherence to change management processes.
Identification of technical constraints limiting performance and addressing accordingly.
Provision of input, direction, and management to other engineering functions to ensure the plant design limits and technical specifications for equipment are respected.
Providing forecasts for budget, daily and monthly updates.
Ensuring delivery of accurate reporting and release of quality analytical information across laboratory functions.
Coaching of a developing workforce to improve and maintain operating standards.
To be considered for this exciting opportunity you will have:
15 years experience in metallurgical process engineering.
A strong understanding of key business risk drivers alongside strong negotiation, influencing and communication skills.
Operational experience to understand the close interfaces between all aspects of the plant environment is essential.
Commercial acumen with experience integrating risk based decision making into all aspects and areas of the business.
Strong safety leadership through example.
Strong cost control skills with proven ability to manage contractors, prepare departmental budgets and manage operating costs.
Experience in leading technical teams in complex operational assets including a thorough knowledge of maintenance and operational functions.
A solid working knowledge of laboratory practices and functions.
Experience with long term production forecasting and day to day planning process.
Experience with continuous improvement to ensure efficiencies, particularly in brown field environments.
This is a residential role but FIFO may be a consideration for the right candidate.
