Our client is a well-established engineering and mining services business delivering high-quality fabrication, mechanical, and maintenance solutions across the mining and heavy industrial sectors.
With a strong reputation for safety, workmanship, and reliability, they continue to grow their workshop operations and are now seeking an experienced Workshop Supervisor to join the team in Mackay.
About the Role
This is a hands-on leadership position responsible for overseeing day-to-day workshop operations across fabrication, welding, fitting, and mechanical assembly activities.
Leading a large workshop team, you'll play a critical role in driving production, maintaining safety standards, ensuring quality outcomes, and keeping projects on schedule. This role is best suited to someone who enjoys being highly visible on the floor, leading from the front, and building strong team culture within a fast-paced industrial environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Supervise and coordinate workshop personnel across fabrication and mechanical operations
- Lead daily production activities to ensure project deadlines are achieved
- Maintain strong safety leadership and enforce workshop compliance standards
- Allocate labour and resources to maximise workshop productivity
- Monitor workflow, resolve operational issues, and minimise downtime
- Ensure all work meets required quality standards and engineering specifications
- Conduct toolbox talks, pre-starts, and team briefings
- Liaise with planning, engineering, QA, and project teams to support project delivery
- Mentor and support Leading Hands, tradespeople, and apprentices
- Maintain workshop organisation, housekeeping, and equipment utilisation
About You
To be successful in this role, you will ideally have:
- Trade qualification in Boilermaking, Welding, Fitting & Turning, or similar
- Previous experience in a Workshop Supervisor, Leading Hand, or Foreman role
- Strong background within heavy fabrication, mining, or industrial workshop environments
- Solid understanding of welding and fabrication processes
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings
- Strong safety leadership and people management skills
- Experience managing production schedules and workshop workflows
- Excellent communication and problem-solving abilities
