Their advanced engineering division, based in Metro Vancouver, specializes in designing and developing heavy-duty battery-powered electric drive systems and supporting infrastructure. The team is dedicated to creating proprietary EV components at the PCB level and delivering complete turn-key systems, including battery packs, vehicle structures, a world-leading dyno, and proprietary firmware and control systems for drive motors, chargers, controllers, DC/DC converters, and battery management systems.
Job Description:
We are seeking an experienced Electrical Engineer to help design, model, and optimize electrical and power systems for next-generation battery-electric mining vehicles. This is a hands-on, high-impact role for someone who thrives on tackling complex electrical challenges in the EV, energy storage, and microgrid space. You'll work at the intersection of hardware and systems, supporting everything from control schematics to grid-level integration of BEV charging infrastructure.
Role and Responsibilities:
Electrical System Design & Integration
- Design electrical systems for BEVs, including power distribution, control circuits, and panel layouts
- Integrate wire harnesses, sensors, controllers, and energy storage systems
- Develop and analyze electrical schematics for system-level functionality and safety
- Support BMS (Battery Management Systems) and embedded control development
Grid & Infrastructure Engineering - Design and evaluate electrical panels, substations, microgrids, and EV charging systems
- Ensure reliable grid integration of high-voltage BEV charging infrastructure and BESS (Battery Energy Storage Systems)
- Collaborate with external utilities and internal teams on energy flow, safety, and code compliance
Simulation, Testing & Validation - Use simulation tools such as ETAP, PSCAD, MATLAB/Simulink, and PSS/E to model and validate system performance
- Conduct real-world testing of electrical systems and correlate results with simulation outputs
- Assist in the setup of SCADA, EMS (Energy Management Systems), and control/monitoring platforms
Documentation & Collaboration - Create and maintain Bills of Materials (BOMs), technical specifications, and manufacturing documentation
- Work cross-functionally with mechanical, firmware, and thermal teams
- Support sourcing and vetting of components aligned with project timelines and technical specs
Skills and Qualifications: Must-Have:
- Degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent field
- Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in grid support, electricity power distribution system, EV charging systems, microgrids, and BESS.
- Design experiences with electrical panels, substations,
- Strong understanding of electrical grid infrastructure, renewable energy integration and related international regulations.
- Proficiency in simulation and modelling tools such as ETAP, PSCAD, MATLAB, Simulink, PSS/E, or similar.
- Experience with control systems, SCADA, and energy management systems.
- Experience with AutoCAD or EPLAN
- Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Strong communication and project management skills.
- Comfortable working independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced R&D setting
Nice-to-Have:
- Experience with SolidWorks Electrical or AutoCAD Electrical
- Familiarity with CANbus, embedded systems, and control software
- Knowledge of motor control systems and power electronics
- Experience working with mining or heavy industrial equipment
- Circuit Breaker Co-ordination experience
To really impress:
- Hands-on BEV system design experience
- Prototype and test experience with electrical systems in rugged environments
- Understanding of electrical safety, HV protocols, and compliance requirements
