The Role
Are you ready to take the next step in your career? We’re offering an exciting opportunity to step into a leadership role within our Microbiology Water Testing Laboratory. As Team Leader, you’ll play a key part in guiding our talented lab team, supporting operations, and ensuring we continue to deliver exceptional results for our clients. You'll also build on your own leadership and technical skills in a collaborative and supportive environment.
About the Position
Location: Ossett, Wakefield
Shift: Monday to Friday – rotational shift between 8-16 and 13-21, 37 hours per week
On-Call: Occasional weekend and evening cover required
Salary: From £29,690 (dependent on experience), WPPS allowance
Contract: Full Time, Permanent
Closing Date: Friday 25th July 2025 at 12 noon
The day to day
- Leading and motivating a team of lab and senior technicians to ensure smooth, efficient day-to-day operations.
- Supporting the team processing potable and waste microbiology samples while maintaining the highest standards of quality and compliance.
- Ensure the department is audit-ready at all times
- Collaborating across departments to foster a culture of safety, accuracy, and continuous improvement.
- Providing guidance and mentorship, championing the development of staff, and inspiring those around you.
- Spearhead the digitization of the microbiology department
- Acting as a key contact for routine client communications, strengthening our reputation for reliability and technical excellence. This includes the daily reporting of critical results.
- Bringing a good attitude to work every day, be proactive, supportive, and always looking for ways to come up with solutions to problems.
The Essentials - Strong science background, either through provable work-based learning and success or a combination of work experience and academic qualifications
- Proven experience in a fast-paced, high-throughput laboratory environment (microbiology preferred).
- A proactive and solution-focused mindset, with a genuine passion for staff development.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills.
- Competence in Microsoft Office, especially Excel.
- A positive, can-do attitude and a strong desire to lead and support others.
- Driving license and own car
- Royal Society of Biology membership preferred
