At ALS, we are committed to embedding sustainability into every aspect of our operations. Join our dedicated Global Sustainability Team as a Climate Change Specialist, where you will play a key role in identifying ALS’s climate change risks, developing strategic plans, and providing actionable recommendations to manage those risks. Additionally, you will contribute to drafting comprehensive reports that drive sustainability initiatives.
The day to day
- Drive initiatives on climate change disclosures, transition planning, and gap analysis to ensure compliance with IFRS, and ASRS requirements.
- A strong focus will be on drafting comprehensive reports aligned with the Task Force on Climate-related Financial Disclosures (TCFD) framework to support sustainability initiatives.
- Perform value chain financial risk analysis and provide expert advice on risk mitigation strategies.
- Provide expert recommendations on transition planning, identifying gaps and areas of opportunity.
- Engage and liaise with external ESG ratings agencies.
- Contribute to and support programme management and governance for climate risk management.
- Provide expert technical advice on climate risk management & reporting, manage the external climate disclosure assurance process and report on industry developments and changes in best practice.
- Lead the work of consultants and contractors to deliver agreed outcomes on budget, quality and time.
- Lead the preparation of climate risk and opportunity assessments, climate adaption strategies, climate scenario analysis, and preparation of external climate disclosures.
- Strengthen organizational resilience to climate change by conducting ROI assessments and risk analyses.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams—including finance, safety, procurement, HR, marketing, and corporate stakeholders—to integrate sustainability into business objectives.
The Essentials - 7+ years relevant experience in a complex organisation with extensive sustainability/environmental experience in a corporate environment.
- Including 2–5 years’ experience in analysing scenario analysis and developing climate change adaption strategies.
- Bachelor’s degree in sustainability, environmental science or other relevant discipline
- Demonstrated expertise in advising businesses on climate-related risks, opportunities, and compliance.
- Advantageous to have demonstrated ability in TCFD reporting.
- A high level of written communication skills, with demonstrated ability to communicate in a clear and logical manner
- Strong analytical and research skills with a proactive, detail-oriented approach.
- Advanced Excel proficiency for data analysis and insight generation.
- Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, enabling you to work collaboratively across diverse teams.
