Approach Consulting is seeking a Senior M365 Cloud Specialist Engineer to join a major Federal Government department responsible for delivering critical national capabilities that support Australia's security, border operations, identity services, and emergency management functions. Operating within a highly complex environment, they undertake significant technology and transformation initiatives with nationwide impact.

The Opportunity

Join a team responsible for a large-scale Microsoft 365 environment that supports critical business operations and enterprise collaboration. You'll play a key role in enhancing platform performance, security, governance and user experience, while contributing to the delivery of new capabilities, automation initiatives and continuous service improvements.
Working closely with stakeholders across ICT, projects and the broader business, you'll provide technical expertise across Microsoft 365 technologies, support the successful transition of new services into production, and help ensure a secure, reliable and well-governed digital workplace.
  

Key Responsibilities

• Administering, supporting and optimising the Department’s Microsoft 365 environment, including Microsoft Teams, SharePoint, Microsoft Purview and Microsoft Copilot;
• Investigating, troubleshooting and resolving complex SharePoint and Microsoft 365 technical issues, providing practical solution options and clear advice to stakeholders.
• Supporting the implementation, configuration and validation of Microsoft 365 services to meet business, operational, security and governance requirements.
• Monitoring platform performance, availability, service health and Microsoft 365 change notifications, assessing organisational impact, risks and required actions.
• Implementing and maintaining Microsoft 365 security, compliance and Microsoft Purview governance controls, including information protection, retention, audit, data loss prevention and reporting capabilities required.
• Possess proficiency with PowerShell and automation for M365 administration.
• Developing and maintaining technical documentation, knowledge articles and operational procedures, and ensuring they are stored in the department’s recordkeeping repository;
• Providing technical advice and guidance to project teams, business representatives and support staff;
• Supporting the delivery of new Microsoft 365 capabilities and transitioning services into business-as-usual support;
• Monitoring the Microsoft 365 Message Centre and proactively assessing upcoming changes, feature releases and deprecations to determine organisational impact, risks and required actions.
• Identifying and implementing service improvements that enhance reliability, security, supportability, operational efficiency and user experience.
• Performing operational support activities, including incident, problems, change, release and knowledge management, in accordance with departmental processes and service management practices.
• Contributing to knowledge sharing, capability uplift and continuous improvement activities within the team;
• Liaising with project teams, business stakeholders, vendors, service providers and other ICT teams to support service delivery and project outcomes.
