Approach Consulting is supporting a major Federal Government agency delivering critical digital services to millions of Australians. We are seeking an experienced Senior Database Administrator to provide specialist expertise across enterprise database platforms, with an immediate focus on database upgrade, migration and optimisation initiatives.

The Opportunity
This role will see you working within a large-scale enterprise environment, supporting critical database platforms and ensuring the ongoing stability, availability and performance of highly important systems. You'll play a key role in planning and delivering database upgrades and migrations, including complex MongoDB initiatives, while collaborating closely with technical teams across the organisation.
 
Key Responsibilities

• Provide senior-level administration across SQL Server, Db2 z/OS, Db2 Midrange and MongoDB environments.
• Lead and support database upgrade, migration and optimisation activities.
• Assess database environments and identify performance, compatibility and operational risks.
• Monitor and optimise database performance, resilience and availability.
• Ensure data integrity, consistency and recoverability across enterprise platforms.
• Support database deployments within containerised environments.
• Develop technical documentation and support knowledge transfer activities.
• Work collaboratively with stakeholders to deliver controlled, low-risk implementations.

Skills & Experience
We're interested in professionals who can demonstrate:

• Strong experience administering enterprise Microsoft SQL Server environments.
• Extensive IBM Db2 z/OS and Db2 Midrange administration expertise.
• Advanced MongoDB administration experience, including replication, backup, recovery and performance tuning.
• Proven delivery of database upgrades and migrations in complex production environments.
• Experience supporting databases within containerised platforms and modern infrastructure ecosystems.
• Strong troubleshooting, documentation and stakeholder engagement skills.
• Experience working within large government or enterprise ICT environments will be highly regarded.
