Approach are working with a key Defence organisation undergoing significant capability and technology modernisation. Operating within a complex systems environment, the program brings together multiple technology and capability streams, creating demand for strong engineering governance across requirements management, architecture, integration and baseline control.

The Opportunity
Our client is seeking an experienced Systems Baseline Engineering Lead to support a complex Defence capability program delivering critical systems and technology outcomes.

Working within a multidisciplinary engineering environment, you will be responsible for leading baseline management activities across a large-scale capability, ensuring technical requirements, architectures, interfaces and system artefacts remain aligned throughout the project lifecycle.

Location: Canberra, On-site

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the establishment, maintenance and governance of system and capability baselines.
• Develop and manage technical, functional and operational requirements.
• Maintain requirements traceability across systems, architectures and engineering artefacts.
• Assess the impact of proposed changes on capability, architecture and program outcomes.
• Support system integration, interoperability and interface management activities.
• Contribute to systems engineering governance, architecture development and technical reviews.
• Facilitate stakeholder workshops and engage with engineering, program and operational teams.
• Prepare technical reports, briefs and recommendations for senior decision-makers.
• Support digital engineering and Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) initiatives.
• Identify opportunities to improve engineering processes, analysis and technical governance.

What Essential Experience Will You Bring?

• Demonstrated experience in Systems Engineering within complex Defence or Government environments.
• Strong understanding of requirements engineering, baseline management and systems integration.
• Experience working across large, multi-vendor or system-of-systems programs.
• Ability to analyse complex technical issues and provide practical recommendations.
• Knowledge of engineering lifecycle management and governance frameworks.
• Experience engaging with senior stakeholders and multidisciplinary technical teams.
• Strong written communication, documentation and presentation skills.

Desirable Experience

• Defence acquisition, sustainment or capability delivery environments.
• Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) experience.
• Enterprise or solution architecture exposure.
• Integration of complex ICT, communications, network or mission systems.
• Experience with systems engineering tools and requirements management platforms.
• INCOSE certification or relevant engineering qualifications.
