We're partnering with a well-established boutique consulting firm to appoint a Senior Consultant into its growing Strategy practice.
This is a newly created position and an opportunity to join a business with an excellent reputation across the Commonwealth, longstanding client relationships and a strong pipeline of work.
Importantly, this isn't a role for someone who simply wants to be handed a project plan and deliver against it.

We're looking for someone who enjoys being given a problem.
The type of person who can take an ambiguous brief, ask the right questions, work out what is really going on, develop a strategy and then help the client put it into practice.
 
The role
Working within the Strategy practice, you'll support clients across complex government problems where the answer often isn't obvious from the outset.
Depending on the engagement, this could involve:

• Breaking down complex or poorly defined problems
• Developing strategy and turning it into practical actions
• Undertaking research, analysis and stakeholder consultation
• Working with data to identify trends, anomalies and insights
• Developing hypotheses and testing assumptions
• Preparing advice, recommendations and presentations for senior stakeholders
• Working alongside clients to implement the strategy, rather than simply handing over a report
• Contributing to the continued growth and development of the Strategy practice

 
What we're looking for
You'll ideally come from a consulting or advisory background, with experience working in teams tasked with solving complex business or government problems.
We're less concerned about a particular methodology or qualification and more interested in how you think.
 
You should be comfortable operating in the grey, challenging assumptions and forming a view when the information in front of you is incomplete.
Strong analytical capability will be important, but you don't need to be a data scientist. We're looking for someone who can look at a set of information, notice that "something doesn't quite make sense", dig into why, and turn that observation into a meaningful insight or recommendation.
 
You'll likely bring:

• Experience within consulting, advisory or a similar problem-solving environment
• Strong structured and critical thinking skills
• The ability to work through ambiguity without needing every step mapped out
• Confidence analysing both quantitative and qualitative information
• Strong written communication and presentation skills
• The ability to engage effectively with senior stakeholders
• A genuine interest in understanding the problem behind the problem

Experience working with Commonwealth Government clients would be highly regarded.
