Associate to Principal Geotechnical Engineer. Canberra based, offering technical leadership across major projects.
The Company.
Approach has been engaged by a well-established geotechnical consultancy with more than 30 years of experience solving complex ground engineering problems across Australia. Operating from offices in the ACT, NSW and QLD, they work across residential and commercial development, major infrastructure and government projects. The business are seeking an Associate to Principal Geotechnical Engineer for their ACT office.
Their team of geotechnical engineers and engineering geologists is a close one, and the business is known for practical, site-specific advice rather than templated reporting. Staff are actively involved in Engineers Australia, the Australian Geomechanics Society and the Institution of Civil Engineers.
The Role.
This position has been created to strengthen technical capability across the business. The focus is on preparing and reviewing geotechnical reports, providing technical leadership and mentoring to the wider team, and undertaking geotechnical design work where required.
You will manage multiple projects of varying size and complexity, maintain client relationships and prepare fee proposals, and contribute to technical reviews and resourcing across the business. Projects are followed from investigation and design through to construction.
What You Need.
The expectation is that you will have 8–10 + years of relevant industry experience, with a strong grounding in site investigations, interpretation of laboratory and in-situ testing, and geotechnical analysis across foundations, retaining structures, settlement assessment, earthworks and slope stability. Chartered status, or the ability to obtain chartership within the next year, is essential.
Besides the above, you'll ideally have a background in commercial or residential development projects. Postgraduate qualifications in geotechnical engineering or engineering geology, and experience in the ACT and broader NSW geotechnical environment, will also be well regarded.
