The Opportunity
We are seeking an experienced Project Engineer / Project Manager to support the planning, delivery, and governance of Defence-related projects across infrastructure, engineering, capability, and sustainment programs.
The successful candidate will work closely with project teams, Defence stakeholders, contractors, and technical specialists to ensure projects are delivered safely, on schedule, within budget, and in accordance with Defence standards and client expectations.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and coordinate project delivery activities across multiple Defence projects.
- Develop and maintain project schedules, budgets, risk registers, and reporting frameworks.
- Support project governance, project controls, and stakeholder management processes.
- Coordinate multidisciplinary engineering and technical teams.
- Manage project scope, change control, and risk mitigation activities.
- Monitor contractor performance and contract deliverables.
- Prepare project documentation, business cases, briefs, and status reports.
- Support procurement, acquisition, and capability development activities.
- Ensure compliance with Defence, government, and organisational standards and requirements.
- Contribute to continuous improvement and project delivery best practices.
Skills & Experience Essential - Baseline Security Clearance (minimum requirement).
- Degree qualification in Engineering (Mech/Elec), Project Management, Construction, Defence Studies, or a related discipline.
- Strong understanding of project management methodologies and project lifecycle delivery.
- Experience managing project schedules, budgets, risks, and stakeholders.
- Excellent communication and relationship management skills.
- Ability to work within structured governance and compliance frameworks.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and reporting capabilities.
Highly Desirable - Defence sector experience with Commonwealth, Defence industry, or major government projects.
- Baseline or higher security clearance.
- Experience in systems engineering, asset management, sustainment, or capability programs.
- Knowledge of program management, project controls, Earned Value Management (EVM), or PMO environments.
- Familiarity with Defence acquisition and procurement processes.
- Experience working with multidisciplinary engineering teams and technical advisors.
