Direct Materials Buyer
Position Overview
As a Commodity Buyer, you will play a critical role in sourcing, negotiating, and managing supplier relationships. You will work closely with cross-functional teams to ensure the timely and cost-effective procurement of your assigned commodities while maintaining the highest standards of quality and reliability, ensuring that the supply base meets cost, quality, launch, and delivery commitments.
Main Responsibilities

• Lead the full sourcing process, including RFQ/RFI activities, technical reviews, and obtaining approvals for new business awards.
• Collaborate with internal cross-functional teams to ensure optimal supplier selection.
• Conduct market research to identify potential suppliers and products that align with organizational needs.
• Negotiate contracts covering pricing and terms with external suppliers for new and carryover components.
• Develop and maintain commodity strategies in coordination with other regions, ensuring alignment with organizational objectives.
• Monitor market price trends and general business activities.
• Manage supplier-related commercial issues.
• Ensure compliance with established procurement policies and procedures.
• Establish annual material budgets and perform monthly budget analysis.
• Partner with suppliers and internal resources to identify, develop, and implement cost savings initiatives.
• Identify and onboard new suppliers/disruptors to support evolving product line needs.
• Negotiate, implement, and maintain up-to-date material pricing contracts in alignment with customer agreements.

Job Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Business, Supply Chain, Engineering, or a related field.
• Minimum 3 years of experience in the automotive industry purchasing direct materials.
• Background in commodity purchasing such as forgings, driveline, stampings, rubber, or plastics.
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and technical guidance.
• Strong negotiation skills.
• Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication abilities.
• Strong organizational and documentation skills.
• Proficiency in MS Office applications.
• Ability to read blueprints and interpret basic engineering documents.
• In-depth knowledge of specific commodities, materials, and purchased products.
• High analytical ability to manage complex situations, with strong knowledge of purchasing strategies and best practices.
• Willingness to travel up to 15%.
