Direct Buyer – Farmington Hills, MI

Summary

The Buyer is responsible for supporting the execution of purchasing strategies aimed at achieving the lowest total cost for raw materials and purchased parts. This is accomplished through effective negotiations, cost analysis, and the implementation of contracts.

Key Functions & Responsibilities of the Direct Buyer

• Aggregate demand across locations to achieve optimal total cost.
• Assist both local and global sourcing teams in benchmarking to provide market insights for the best sourcing strategy.
• Utilize SAP ERP to create Scheduling Agreements, Purchase Orders, manage Part Staging, and set up EDI processes.
• Collaborate with Supplier Development teams to assess new suppliers according to relevant guidelines and conduct VA/VE workshops.
• Negotiate terms for long-term supply agreements, ensuring supply chain reliability, material quality, and favorable commercial conditions.
• Assist purchasing management in reporting budgets and forecasts for transparent purchasing outcomes.
• Support Advance Purchasing in managing RFQs and program launch activities to meet deliverables.
• Aid in the approval process for new materials and suppliers.
• Develop and manage the Purchasing Portal for handling new RFQs.
• Create purchasing strategies for assigned material groups and communicate with internal departments like Product Development and Manufacturing.
• Provide in-depth data analysis using Excel, including Pivot Tables, to solve problems using data-driven methods.

Required Education, Skills & Abilities of the Direct Buyer

• Bachelor’s degree required (technical degree preferred).
• 3-5 years of experience in procurement roles with cross-functional exposure in related areas.
• Advanced Excel skills.
• Highly motivated and results-driven.
• Proficiency in English; additional language skills are a plus.
• Ability to analyze complex documents and respond to inquiries from stakeholders, including customers and suppliers.
• Strong mathematical aptitude.
• Capability to define issues, gather data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
• Proficient in Word, PowerPoint, Excel.
• SAP ERP experience is highly preferred.

Domestic and international travel required.
