The role:
We're on the hunt for a Journalist to join our team in Victoria, reporting to the Managing Editor. You'll play a key role in bringing our Editorial content strategy to life, working closely with the Marketing team to help execute our Social strategy along the way. At Gumtree Group, we set the standard for Editorial work — ensuring our audience and partners get real, tangible value from everything we publish. In this role, you'll create and manage written, video and audio content, including Social, grounded in sound journalistic principles and aligned with CarsGuide's Editorial and Marketing strategies. Ultimately, your work will help power our mission: giving every Australian car buyer the confidence to make the right purchase decision, backed by strong Editorial content and the research tools behind it.
What you'll do:
- Create written, video and audio content, as directed by the News Editor and Managing Editor. Content includes News, Reviews, Advice, Social and the maintenance of assorted text passages on our website and associated platforms, including Social
- Ensure writing is SEO- and GEO-optimised to maximise traffic potential using best practices, while following Production processes to facilitate seamless transmission from creation to publishing
- Create Content Management System tickets for your own News content
- Sub-edit written News content and Social content
- Conduct vehicle testing and analysis for Reviews and/or market knowledge, in accordance with CarsGuide's Editorial strategy
- Assist the Head of Editorial, Managing Editor, News Editor and other senior Editorial team members with the development and management of CarsGuide's Editorial strategy, based on audience insights, performance of previous content, and experimentation, while actively mentoring junior team members
What you'll bring: - A Journalism degree or similar
- Up to 3 years' experience in a similar role; we are also open to other relevant experience
- Deep understanding of the automotive industry, both in Australia and globally
- SEO- and GEO-focused writing experience is essential, paired with a deep understanding of SEO, GEO, social, and data-driven content strategies
- Experience sub-editing written Editorial content and editing short-form Video content
- Extensive long- and short-form Video presenting and short-form Video editing experience
- Exceptional presenting, written, verbal communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to network and build strong relationships internally and externally
- The ability to bring a business mindset to the role, focusing on leadership, decision-making, process improvement, planning, multi-tasking, time management and project management
