The role:
Trade & Transact is the team that gets buyers and sellers through a safe, seamless exchange once a connection is made, and as our Senior Product Manager, you'll be responsible for a remit covering Payments, Shipping, Messaging and Fraud and Safety. Your immediate priority is twofold: driving adoption of our Payments and Shipping products, and keeping fraud and scammers off the platform so buyers and sellers can transact with confidence. You'll work with cross-functional partners to remove friction from the payment and shipping experience across both buyer and seller journeys, and you'll help define the strategy for how that landscape expands as the business grows.
This is a hands-on role, you'll be in the discovery, the spec writing, the design critique and the post-launch experimentation, not just directing others through it. Our team works AI-first: we've built AI into how we do discovery and delivery, from synthesising research to shaping specs, and we want someone who'll keep pushing that practice further rather than treating it as a tool bolted onto an old way of working. You'll be accountable for driving complex initiatives alongside your design and engineering partners, own the commercial metrics for your area, and make confident trade-off calls between buyer and seller value, and between audience growth and revenue. You'll operate with real autonomy, and you'll be expected to raise the quality bar for everyone around you.
What you'll do:
- Work closely with our Head of Product and Senior Leadership to define the product strategy and roadmap
- Set the tone for product discovery work - design thinking, user testing, and experimentation
- Be an internal champion across the business for your remit. Own relationships with leaders and instil confidence in both strategic plans as well as project deliverables
- Identify opportunities within your team to grow our business and brands from an audience and commercial perspective while ensuring to increase the trust and safety for our customers on Gumtree
- Clearly communicate, alongside your Engineering and Design partners, discovery and delivery plans, reporting regular updates and highlighting any delivery issues that need to be addressed
- Be responsible for reporting on product impact (key metrics, initiatives and experiments) and incorporating data, research and market analysis into any plans, including optimising the customer experience to increase conversions and improve other key metrics
What you'll bring: - 5+ years of experience as a Product Manager, with at least 2 years operating at a senior level owning complex, multi-stakeholder initiatives
- Deep working knowledge of transactional products with either a payment or shipping focus
- Experience working with marketplaces, eCommerce, or other online consumer products on both web and app platforms would be beneficial, along with understanding how the dynamics of marketplace liquidity
- Hands-on fluency with AI-assisted discovery and delivery tooling, and a genuine appetite to keep extending how it's used
- An analytical and data-centric approach to decision-making, along with experience in quantitative and qualitative research methods
- Strategic thinking with a can-do mentality and customer-first mindset
- The ability to effectively communicate and present, you don't stay in the shadows, you can visualise, shape, and communicate in a way that gets buy-in and creates alignment
- Experience working in a technical environment with a broad, cross-functional team to identify opportunities, define product requirements, coordinate resources from other groups and guide the team through key milestones
