About the role:
As part of our growth journey, we are looking for a talented Engineering Manager to join our Technology Team. As an Engineering Manager, you will be leading the team that is responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining our software systems that power the Gumtree site and other services that drive Gumtree Group forward.
As an Engineering Manager, you will work in cross-functional teams that require you to understand and communicate the business value of what we work on, and be able to lead and mentor cross-department peers from a technical perspective.
The ideal candidate will have extensive leadership capabilities, excellent problem-solving skills, a passion for quality and building robust software, and the ability to communicate complex ideas effectively. This role will report to the VP of Engineering.
What you’ll do:
- Coach and lead an engineering team of over 10, focused on building software systems that power the Gumtree site and other services
- Work with Product Managers, Designers, and QE Engineers to deliver purpose-built quality software
- Create software that supports high volume and high availability, that is self-healing and alerting
- Own areas of the technical stack as defined by the domain ownership
- Be able to own and report on key metrics that drive your team
- Track company OKRs to deliver quarterly work
- Ensure Technical debt is planned each quarter and actioned
- Provide Technical guidance and expertise to your team
- Project planning and coordination
- Stay up-to-date with the latest advancements in software engineering and apply them to our business problems
- Manage hiring and resourcing needs, including resourcing for the execution of the Engineering roadmap
What you’ll bring: - Extensive background and programming skills in Java, React, Swift or Kotlin
- Deep knowledge of GCP
- Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to work independently
- Experience managing a large team or multiple teams
- Experience in running organisational initiatives
- Excellent project management skills
- The ability to communicate effectively and collaborate with people in your team
- The ability to communicate updates and problems with your manager regularly
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field
