YOUR NEW ROLE
They are seeking a Design Manager to join their Adelaide-based team and lead the design process for Defence infrastructure projects. Reporting to the Project Director / Project Manager, you will coordinate all aspects of the design phase, ensuring compliance, buildability, and stakeholder satisfaction.
In this role, you will:
- Manage the design process from concept through to construction handover.
- Liaise with clients, consultants, contractors, and Defence stakeholders.
- Oversee design reviews, risk assessments, and value engineering.
- Ensure compliance with NCC, Australian Standards, DEQMS, and Defence protocols.
- Facilitate workshops and manage competing stakeholder interests.
- Maintain accurate design documentation and provide clear reporting.
- Monitor design budgets, programs, and risks to keep projects on track.

ARE YOU A FIT? This role is ideal for someone with proven Defence project experience who thrives in managing complex design challenges and enjoys working at the interface of technical delivery and stakeholder management.
You’ll bring:
✔ Minimum 3 years’ experience as a Designer or Design Manager in building/construction.
✔ Defence project design experience with strong knowledge of security protocols.
✔ Solid understanding of NCC, Australian Standards, and DEQMS.
✔ Strong stakeholder management and communication skills.
✔ Ability to lead multidisciplinary design teams.
✔ Proficiency in design management tools (BIM, Revit, AutoCAD).
✔ Australian Citizenship (essential for Defence Security Clearance).
Desirable but not essential:✔Tertiary qualifications in Architecture, Engineering, or Construction Management.
✔ Experience working for an engineering consultancy or commercial building company within Australia.
✔ Knowledge of sustainable design principles / Green Star ratings.
