Founding Developer – Applied AI / Systems Location: Calgary (On-site with field exposure)

The Impact Our client is building the bridge between analog reality and digital intelligence in oil & gas operations.
They deploy hardware into harsh, real-world environments to capture physical, acoustic, environmental, and operational signals that have historically been ignored or never digitized. From there, they build focused, highly practical AI systems that understand what is actually happening on the ground.
This is not abstract AI. This is small, purpose-built intelligence applied to narrow, high-value physics problems — systems that solve real operational challenges in live environments.
The Role As Founding Developer, you will help turn messy physical signals into reliable intelligence.
This is an intentionally broad, first-principles role. You will operate at the intersection of AI, applied physics, signal processing, and systems engineering — working closely with hardware, field operations, and founders.
You’ll prototype quickly, test in the field, iterate without perfect data, and help define how intelligence is applied to physical systems from the ground up.
This role may evolve into long-term technical leadership, a specialist engagement, or something in between. What matters most is what you can build.
What You’ll Do

• Design and train small, purpose-built AI models or agents
• Work directly with sensor, acoustic, and physical measurement data
• Translate real-world physics problems into computational frameworks
• Rapidly prototype and test models in live environments
• Collaborate with hardware and operations teams
• Iterate quickly under real-world constraints

What Success Looks Like

• Practical AI systems deployed in live operational environments
• Reliable signal interpretation under noisy, imperfect conditions
• Rapid cycles of build → test → refine
• Clear movement from analog ambiguity to measurable intelligence

Who You Are You may recognize yourself if you:

• Prefer applied problems over abstract benchmarks
• Are comfortable working with small datasets and noisy signals
• Have experience across AI/ML, signal processing, physics, robotics, or systems engineering
• Enjoy operating close to hardware and real-world constraints
• Think from first principles rather than frameworks

You do not need:

• A specific pedigree or title
• Oil & gas experience (domain can be learned)
• Big-tech background

You do need:

• Strong intuition for how real systems behave
• Comfort in early-stage ambiguity
• Pragmatism and curiosity
• The ability to reason clearly under constraints
