About the Role:
As a Community Kitchen Chef, you will guide a team of volunteers to produce nutritious meals for distribution throughout the network. You will be responsible for menu planning, food preparation, and maintaining a high standard of kitchen presentation. You will also build relationships with corporate groups, vendors, and volunteers, promoting the value of the community kitchen.
Key Responsibilities:
- Ensuring operations and outputs of the kitchen are delivered in accordance with the values and goals that support the overall organisational objectives
- Providing guidance and direction to volunteers and corporate partners
- Reducing waste through correct menu selection to ensure food is prepared in a timely manner
- Planning the menu and preparing food ensuring that packaged meals are designed to be highly appealing to customers in terms of taste, appearance and quality
- Maintaining a clean well stocked, safe, constructive and effective working environment that complies with food, health and safety laws at all times
- Communicate with procurement team to identify specific ingredient needs consistent with Foodbank’s healthy eating strategies
- Provide and adaptive and creative approach to menu design evidenced through the production of appealing and sellable packaged meals across the Foodbank network
- Report to management on all aspects of food handling and safety across all operational aspects of Foodbank including Branches and Mobile services
- Provide education sessions and build relationships with corporate groups, vendors and volunteers promoting the value of the community kitchen
- Work closely with the Brand team, Partnerships and Fundraising team to promote the work of the community kitchen
- Support internal and team events
- Support the financial operation of the kitchen ensuring kitchen materials and items that are purchased are approved and within budget
- Support the distribution of weekly meals to the Foodbank network adopting food rescue strategies to minimise costs and wastage and increase production capacity
- Work with line manager to seek out opportunities and other cost-effective methods for improving meal production
- Work with other Agency Partners to ensure it is a financially viable option when they purchase meals
Job Requirements: To be considered for this exciting opportunity you will have the following:
- Two years’ experience working in commercial kitchens
- Experience working as a qualified Chef
- Well-developed interpersonal and communication skills
- A genuine flair to create appealing, nutritious meals on mass
- Strong organisational and administrative skills
- Demonstrated flexible, energetic, and self-motivated approach to achieving goals and timelines
- Passion to make a difference in WA, within a Non-Profit Organisation
Additional Requirements: If successful for the position, be willing to obtain and provide:
- Australian Citizen/ Permanent Resident with valid Australian working rights
- Current and valid WA Drivers' License
- National Police clearance
- Medical assessment of current health
Benefits: This role offers a competitive salary of $85,300 with salary sacrifice options available, equivalent to $94,029 in a commercial environment. In addition, you will be part of a respectful and compassionate team, working towards the goal of ending hunger in Western Australia.
