The client
Our client is an established private psychiatric and addiction rehabilitation facility offering personalised, holistic mental healthcare. The facility specialises in treating individuals experiencing mental health conditions, substance use disorders and dual diagnoses, providing a supportive therapeutic environment with an experienced multidisciplinary team.
The opportunity
An exciting opportunity exists for an Occupational Therapist who is passionate about mental health and rehabilitation to join a dedicated clinical team.
The successful candidate will play an important role in helping patients improve cognitive functioning, develop practical coping strategies, regain independence and build the skills needed for long-term recovery.
The role involves individual assessments, therapeutic interventions and group-based rehabilitation programmes. Candidates with experience conducting cognitive assessments or training in Functional Capacity Assessments within mental health will be particularly well suited to this opportunity.
Key responsibilities
- Conduct comprehensive Occupational Therapy assessments, including cognitive and functional evaluations.
- Develop and implement individualised treatment and rehabilitation plans.
- Facilitate therapeutic group sessions focusing on life skills, stress management, emotional regulation and healthy daily routines.
- Provide individual interventions aimed at improving independence, occupational performance and overall functioning.
- Conduct Functional Capacity Assessments where appropriately trained and experienced.
- Support patients in developing coping strategies, improving social participation and reintegrating into everyday life.
- Contribute to recovery-focused programmes for patients experiencing psychiatric conditions, addiction and dual diagnoses.
- Collaborate with psychiatrists, psychologists, nurses and other healthcare professionals.
- Participate in multidisciplinary meetings, treatment reviews and discharge planning.
- Maintain accurate clinical documentation and progress reports.
Requirement - Recognised qualification in Occupational Therapy.
- Current HPCSA registration.
- Experience within mental health, psychiatry or addiction rehabilitation.
- Experience conducting cognitive assessments would be highly advantageous.
- Training or experience in Functional Capacity Assessments within mental health would be advantageous.
- Experience facilitating individual and group therapy sessions.
- Understanding of psychiatric conditions, addiction and their impact on daily functioning.
- Strong clinical reasoning, communication and interpersonal skills.
- Compassionate, patient-centred approach to rehabilitation.
- Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team.
