The opportunity
An exciting opportunity is available for a dedicated and experienced Anaesthetic Enrolled Nurse to join a busy theatre unit.
Reporting directly to the Matron: Theatre, the successful candidate will play an important role in supporting the anaesthetic team throughout the peri-operative process, ensuring patient safety, preparing equipment and contributing to the efficient running of theatre operations.
This position would suit an Enrolled Nurse with anaesthetic theatre experience who thrives in a fast-paced, multidisciplinary environment.
Key responsibilities
- Assist with the preparation of patients and equipment for anaesthetic procedures.
- Prepare, check and maintain anaesthetic equipment, consumables and theatre supplies.
- Ensure anaesthetic trolleys and emergency equipment are appropriately stocked and ready for use.
- Assist with patient preparation, positioning and transfers for theatre procedures.
- Support anaesthetists with patient monitoring during the peri-operative period, within scope of practice.
- Assist with patient recovery preparation and clinical handovers.
- Maintain accurate nursing documentation and patient records.
- Adhere to infection prevention, patient safety and quality assurance protocols.
- Ensure cleanliness and readiness of the anaesthetic work area between procedures.
- Support efficient theatre workflow and collaborate with the multidisciplinary team.
- Assist with stock control and management of anaesthetic consumables.
Requirements - Enrolled Nursing Certificate.
- Current registration with the South African Nursing Council (SANC) as an Enrolled Nurse.
- Minimum 1-2 years' experience in an anaesthetic theatre environment preferred.
- Sound knowledge of anaesthetic equipment and patient monitoring systems.
- Understanding of theatre procedures, infection prevention and patient safety protocols.
- Ability to remain calm, focused and organised in a busy theatre environment.
- Strong communication, interpersonal and teamwork skills.
- Excellent attention to detail and a commitment to delivering high-quality patient care.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification advantageous.
- Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification advantageous.
