The client
Our client is a boutique private psychiatric facility providing personalised, holistic mental healthcare within a supportive inpatient environment. Working as part of an experienced multidisciplinary team, the facility provides individualised treatment to adults experiencing a range of mental health conditions.
The opportunity
This is an excellent opportunity for an Occupational Therapist with a passion for mental health to join an established psychiatric team. The successful candidate will work with adult inpatients, providing both individual and group-based occupational therapy interventions aimed at improving function, developing coping strategies and supporting patients in their recovery.
The ideal candidate will have a few years of relevant clinical experience, preferably within a psychiatric or mental health setting. Experience conducting cognitive assessments and/or training in Functional Capacity Assessments within mental health would be highly advantageous.
Key responsibilities
- Conduct occupational therapy assessments and develop individualised intervention plans.
- Conduct cognitive and functional assessments where appropriate.
- Provide individual occupational therapy interventions to adult psychiatric patients.
- Facilitate therapeutic and skills-based group sessions.
- Support patients in improving functional capacity, independence and participation in meaningful daily activities.
- Assist patients in developing practical strategies to manage stress, anxiety and other challenges affecting daily functioning.
- Work collaboratively with psychiatrists, psychologists, nursing staff and other members of the multidisciplinary team.
- Contribute to treatment planning, patient progress reviews and discharge planning.
- Maintain accurate clinical documentation and uphold professional and ethical standards.
Requirement - Recognised qualification in Occupational Therapy.
- Current registration with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA).
- A few years of post-qualification Occupational Therapy experience preferred.
- Previous experience within mental health, psychiatry or a related clinical setting would be highly advantageous.
- Experience conducting cognitive assessments would be advantageous.
- Training and/or experience in Functional Capacity Assessments, particularly within mental health, would be advantageous.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Comfortable facilitating both individual and group therapy.
- A compassionate, patient-centred approach and an ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team.
