The opportunity
The Registered Nurse Neuro Scrub will deliver specialised nursing care within the theatre environment, focusing on neurological procedures. This role requires a highly skilled professional with strong technical expertise in neurosurgery, who can support complex procedures while ensuring optimal patient outcomes and adherence to clinical standards.
Responsibilities:
- Assess, plan, implement and evaluate individualised nursing care within the theatre environment
- Assist as a scrub nurse in neurological surgical procedures
- Demonstrate competence in cranial, intracranial and spinal procedures
- Operate and manage specialised neuro equipment including microscope, spinal bed and CUSA
- Support ENT surgical procedures when required
- Act as a clinical resource to support staff in delivering high-quality patient care
- Participate in multidisciplinary team activities and patient care planning
- Maintain accurate patient records and documentation
- Respond effectively to emergency situations within scope of practice
- Ensure adherence to clinical protocols, policies and procedures
- Maintain a safe, clean and compliant environment for patients and staff
- Support training, mentoring and development of nursing staff and students
- Contribute to quality improvement and risk management initiatives
Requirements: - Registered as a Professional Nurse with the South African Nursing Council
- Strong knowledge of general and specialised nursing theory and practice
- Proven experience within a theatre environment as a scrub nurse
- Competence in neurological surgical procedures and equipment
- Ability to work under pressure and adapt to changing clinical environments
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team
- Sound understanding of modern nursing care principles and practices
