As the leading medical recruitment agency in South Africa, our client has an exciting opportunity for a File Assessor based in Malmesbury, Cape Town, South Africa. The File Assessor is responsible for ensuring that patient medical records are accurately compiled, assessed, and maintained in accordance with the hospital’s policies, legal requirements, and best practices in healthcare documentation. This role plays a critical part in supporting patient care by ensuring the timely and efficient handling of medical files for accurate billing, legal compliance, and quality assurance. Final audit and final release of account to the funder.
Responsibilities:
- Timely Assessment: Ensure timely assessment and completion of medical files to avoid delays in patient care, billing, and legal compliance.
- Accuracy: Maintain the accuracy of medical records, ensuring all documentation is complete and compliant with internal and external standards.
- Compliance: Ensure that all patient medical records comply with legal and regulatory requirements, including those set by the HPCSA and the National Health Act.
- Collaboration: Successfully collaborate with clinical and administrative teams to ensure efficient and accurate medical record-keeping.
- Efficiency: Contribute to the hospital’s digitisation efforts, supporting the transition to electronic health records (EHR) and streamlining file management processes.
Requirements: - Grade 12
- Professional Nursing qualification with a valid SANC registration
- At least 2-3 years of experience as an Enrolled or Registered Nurse/ Bill Auditor/ File Assessor in medical records management, file assessment, or health information management preferably in a private hospital setting.
- Familiarity with healthcare coding systems such as ICD-10 and CPT
- Proficiency in using a Health Management Information System (HMIS)
- Knowledge of healthcare regulations and confidentiality standards
- Strong knowledge of National Hospital Network reimbursement models will be an added advantage
