Fleet Engineer
Location: Leicester, LE9
Salary: £47K per annum
Contract: Permanent
Hours: Day shift- Monday-Friday 8.30am-5.30pm
Hunters 4 Staff are recruiting for a Fleet Engineer on behalf of a well-established and respected commercial vehicle fleet business. This is a great opportunity for an experienced HGV engineering professional who enjoys problem-solving, supplier management, and ensuring vehicles remain safe, compliant, and available for customers.
You'll play a key role in maintaining fleet performance, managing supplier relationships, controlling costs, and supporting customers with expert technical guidance.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage relationships with external maintenance providers, ensuring service levels, quality standards, and vehicle uptime targets are achieved.
- Review supplier performance, carry out audits, and drive improvements where standards fall below expectations.
- Provide technical expertise on HGV maintenance, repairs, warranty claims, recurring faults, and engineering decisions.
- Negotiate repair costs, goodwill contributions, warranty support, and supplier agreements to protect commercial performance.
- Support customers and internal teams by providing clear technical advice and resolving engineering concerns.
- Analyse fleet data, maintenance records, and reporting systems to identify trends, improve efficiency, and reduce costs.
Requirements
- Fully qualified HGV Technician or equivalent engineering qualification.
- Minimum 5 years' experience within HGV maintenance, fleet engineering, or commercial vehicle operations.
- Strong knowledge of vehicle compliance, maintenance standards, and workshop best practices.
- Experience managing suppliers, negotiating costs, and challenging poor performance professionally.
- Confident using fleet management systems, Microsoft Office applications, and data-driven reporting tools.
