BE YOUR BEST AT BDO

We occupy a unique space in the market. We work with entrepreneurial, owner-led businesses, where our advice directly shapes how they operate and succeed. We also work with some of the largest organisations in New Zealand and overseas. For our people, that means a range of experience few firms can offer.

Our Risk Assurance & Consulting team is successful, growth-focused and in demand. We've grown quickly by doing work our clients value, and we're building a team of people who want to grow with us.

Professional services is changing fast. AI and new technologies are reshaping what clients need from us and how we deliver it. We want people who don't just watch that change, but help drive it.

The work we do

• Risk management consulting – helping boards and management teams identify and manage the risks to their strategy
• Process improvement and transformation – redesigning how organisations work, often after a new system, a merger, efficiency goals or new regulation
• Assurance – internal audit and reviews of controls and compliance, giving boards, management and regulators confidence that processes are well designed and working in practice
• Technology and AI – using AI and automation to improve core business processes
• Deal support – helping clients find and protect value before and after a transaction
• Fraud risk – preventing and detecting fraud and, when needed, investigating and quantifying losses for legal proceedings.

About the role

You'll run engagements day to day, often several at once, and be the main contact for client teams. You'll work closely with managers and partners, and have real responsibility from the start.

We want someone who keeps the big picture in view. You'll understand what each client is trying to achieve, balance competing priorities and keep everyone informed along the way.

You'll:

• Plan and run engagements from scoping to final report, on time and on budget
• Build strong working relationships with client teams and manage their expectations
• Raise issues early and help find practical solutions
• Turn findings into clear, practical reports that people want to act on
• Communicate confidently with your team and clients, in writing and in person
• Coach, supervise and review the work of junior team members
• Contribute to proposals and help grow client relationships
• Bring ideas for using AI and technology to improve how we work.

About you

• Several years' experience, mostly in professional services (risk advisory, internal or external audit, or consulting), now at senior consultant or assistant manager level
• CA and/or IIA qualified, or another relevant postgraduate qualification
• Client-side or commercial experience is a bonus, not essential
• Technically strong, with the commercial sense to see how the pieces fit together
• A confident communicator who builds trust with colleagues and clients
• Organised and self-motivated – you manage your own workload and deliver on time
• Curious about how AI and new technology are changing our profession, and keen to help drive that change
• Proud of your work, committed to getting it right and ambitious for your career.

What you'll get

For the right person with the right mindset, this is a real chance to accelerate your career. You'll work in a dynamic, fast-paced team alongside experienced, interesting people, and build skills that will serve you wherever your career goes.

• Breadth – work across sectors and ownership structures, not just one corner of the economy
• Development – coaching, training and study support to build your technical and people skills
• Responsibility – real ownership and regular contact with senior client leaders
• Progression – a clear path to Manager in a team that is growing
• Balance – hybrid working, sport and social clubs, and birthday and volunteering leave
• Reach – opportunities to travel, backed by a global network in more than 160 countries.
