Ready for a role where your career can genuinely go somewhere?

At BDO Rotorua, we’re looking for an experienced Business Advisory professional at Senior level or above who wants more than simply their next accounting role.

This is an opportunity to take on meaningful client work, develop your leadership and commercial advisory skills, and build a long-term career within a locally owned firm where progression is real and visible.

For someone with the ambition and capability to take their career all the way, there is a pathway right through to Partnership and ownership. For the right candidate who is already operating at a suitably senior level, that progression could potentially be within 1–2 years.

Just as importantly, you don’t have to choose between career progression and having a life outside work. We offer flexibility, genuine work-life balance and the opportunity to build your career while enjoying everything Rotorua has to offer.

About the role

As a senior member of our Business Advisory Services team, you’ll work closely with clients to understand their businesses, identify opportunities and challenges, and provide practical, commercially focused advice.

Depending on your experience, you’ll also have the opportunity to lead and develop others, build your own client relationships and portfolio, contribute to the direction of the wider practice, and progressively take on greater responsibility.

Your role will include:

• Providing high-level business, financial and structuring advice
• Building trusted, long-term relationships with clients
• Identifying business challenges and developing practical, tailored solutions
• Reviewing financial reporting and work prepared by the wider team
• Using your commercial and technical expertise to support client growth and decision-making
• Coaching, mentoring and developing team members
• Keeping ahead of relevant industry, technical and regulatory developments
• Contributing to the continued growth and success of BDO Rotorua

What you will bring

We’re looking for someone who is technically strong but, equally importantly, enjoys working with people and wants to make a meaningful contribution to clients, the team and the wider firm.

Ideally, you’ll have:

• 5+ years’ Business Advisory Services experience within a New Zealand CA firm
• A Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance and a CA qualification or equivalent
• Strong commercial acumen and the confidence to have meaningful conversations with business owners
• Experience reviewing work and supporting or leading other team members
• Strong analytical, problem-solving and financial reporting skills
• A proactive, practical and solutions-focused approach
• An interest in continuing to develop your technical, advisory and leadership capability

Your Future at BDO Rotorua

We believe exceptional client service starts with exceptional regard for our people.

As a locally owned firm, BDO Rotorua offers the opportunity to build your career in an environment where you can be known for the contribution you make and have genuine access to senior leaders and decision-makers.

For the right person, this role can be much more than your next career move. It can be a pathway to leadership, Partnership and ultimately ownership of the firm.

And if Partnership isn’t your goal? That’s okay too. We want to support experienced people to build careers that suit their strengths and ambitions, with opportunities to deepen their technical expertise, develop their leadership capability and grow as trusted business advisors.

A career that works with your life

Rotorua offers an enviable lifestyle, with lakes, forests and outdoor activities on your doorstep, while the Bay of Plenty coastline and Central Plateau are within easy reach.

We want our people to have the opportunity to enjoy that lifestyle.

Work-life balance is a foundation of our office, with flexible working hours.  This role is ideally 40 hours per week, however we’re open to considering reduced FTE arrangements for the right person, giving you greater flexibility to balance your career with life outside work.

We’re happy to discuss flexibility with shortlisted candidates and explore an arrangement that supports your career alongside your family, interests and life outside work.

Remuneration will reflect the level of the appointment and your experience and will be discussed during the recruitment process.

You must be currently in New Zealand and have the right to work permanently to apply.
