Kick-start your accounting career with a summer internship at BDO Gisborne.
Designed for tertiary students with a connection to Te Tairāwhiti, this five-week programme offers real-world experience across accounting, advisory, compliance, and client service.
You'll work alongside a supportive team, gain exposure to real clients, and explore career pathways in agri-business, Māori business, and commercial advisory, all while experiencing what it's like to be part of a globally connected firm with strong local roots.
About the programme
This is a five-week programme running full-time from mid-January to mid-February, Monday to Friday, 8:30 am to 5:00 pm.
You will rotate through key teams across our Gisborne office, gaining insight into accounting, advisory, compliance, client service, and office operations, with exposure to the industries that make careers in our region unique.
What you will be involved in
- Shadow team members and observe core accounting and advisory work.
- Assist with supervised tasks such as data entry, reconciliations, document preparation, system updates, and records management.
- Gain exposure to financial statements, GST returns, tax compliance, client reporting, and business advisory support.
- Take part in team meetings, mentor check-ins, and practical learning activities.
Who we're looking for
We're looking for tertiary students studying (or planning to study) accounting, business, or financial services.
We'd love to hear from students with a connection to
Te Tairāwhiti, whether through whānau, whakapapa, study, work, community ties, or a genuine interest in building a career in the region.
You don't need previous experience. We're looking for people with a positive attitude, curiosity, reliability, and a willingness to learn.
