As the Health and Safety Advisor, we will empower you to think beyond, redefine standards and evolve the status quo. This is a full‑time, permanent role ideally based in our Hays Townsville office, with the flexibility to consider candidates located in Mackay, Cairns or Mt Isa.
The role includes a company car and mobile phone, with expected travel across the North Queensland region, including 2–3 nights away each month.
The Health & Safety Advisor is responsible for identifying and managing risks affecting the temporary workforce, ensuring their safety so far as is reasonably practicable across the North Queensland region. The role achieves this by implementing and maintaining procedures under the standardised Health & Safety Management System (HSMS) in partnership with the Queensland H&S Manager and Head of H&S ANZ.
Key Responsibilities include:
- Conduct risk assessments and site visits across diverse, high‑risk industries, identifying hazards and ensuring appropriate controls are implemented.
- Investigate incidents, injuries and near misses using structured methodologies, developing corrective actions and ensuring follow‑through with temporary workers and clients.
- Partner closely with clients, temporary workers and internal teams to provide practical H&S advice, influencing safe work practices without a compliance‑enforcement approach.
- Deliver H&S training, coaching and toolbox talks to internal stakeholders to uplift capability and strengthen safety culture.
- Support the delivery and execution of Queensland H&S plans and maintain accurate records, reports and hazard registers.
- Engage on client sites during high‑pressure situations, helping stabilise issues and negotiate safe, workable outcomes.
What you'll need to succeed - Minimum Certificate IV in Workplace Health & Safety
- Current C‑Class driver’s licence for regular site travel.
- At least 12 months’ experience in the management of Health & Safety, ideally within a multi‑site environment.
- Strong ability to negotiate safe and practical outcomes with clients in fast‑moving or high‑pressure situations.
- Proven experience building and managing relationships with clients, internal teams and temporary workers.
- Demonstrated capability in delivering training, coaching or toolbox talks to uplift safety awareness.
- ICAM investigation techniques and experience working with a multi‑site employer are strong advantages.
