Our Hays Sydney CBD office is looking for a Payroll Officer to join our team and plays a key role ensure the accurate and timely processing of wages for temporary employees and provide exceptional customer service support to the business in Australia and New Zealand.
This is a full time 12-month role covering parental leave commencing mid-January 2026.
Key Responsibilities include:
- Maintain and update payroll systems including Haysnet, D-Bit, and Great Plains
- Validate timesheets and interpret awards where required
- Review payroll checking and duplicate reports, resolving any errors promptly
- Follow up on problem timesheets and ensure timely processing
- Process manual payments, adjustments, and back pays
- Calculate, recover, and reconcile overpayments
- Respond to payroll queries professionally and escalate when necessary
- Support Recruitment Consultants and managers with payroll-related issues
- Update employee details and maintain data accuracy
- Adhere to company privacy policies and compliance standards
What you'll need to succeed - No prior payroll experience required – we welcome candidates with high-volume administration or customer service backgrounds
- Knowledge of modern awards and payroll legislation across Australia and New Zealand is an advantage
- Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy
- Strong customer service skills, with the ability to build rapport and communicate confidently both in person and over the phone
- Adaptability and a proactive approach to learning new systems and processes
- Resilience when handling challenging situations
- Experience with reporting systems (highly regarded)
- Proficiency in MS Office, including intermediate Excel skills
