A private equity backed business is now consolidating what it has bought, replacing its HR, payroll and finance systems with a single cloud platform. It is a lean internal team working alongside a tier one implementation partner, so the work is visible and the decisions are close to the top.


About the role
Own testing across the whole programme, client side. You will write the test strategy, set the governance and run testing across HCM, payroll and finance, working with the programme leads and the delivery partner. The internal project team is small, so this is the role where testing strategy and oversight lives. You will be the person the programme leads stop worrying about.


Duties / Key responsibilities

• Define the test strategy, master test plan, quality gates and entry and exit criteria for the programme
• Plan and lead testing across SIT, end to end, UAT, regression and production verification
• Own the payroll testing approach, including parallel payroll cycles, reconciliation and variance investigation
• Lead finance testing across general ledger posting, month end cycle and consolidated reporting across a complex entity structure
• Govern data migration testing and source to target reconciliation
• Hold the implementation partner to account, chair defect triage and manage the risk and issues register
• Report progress, risk and quality to the programme leads and provide evidence based go-live recommendations

Who you are


You understand finance, not just finance testing. When a script fails you can work out why from the business side, rather than marking it red and passing it on.
 
You have run payroll testing properly. You know what a parallel run costs in time and people, you have agreed variance thresholds with a business before, and you know the difference between a clean sheet and a stable one.
You are comfortable being the only testing voice in the room. 
 
You can sit with a payroll manager, a financial controller and a delivery partner in the same hour and hold your own in all three conversations.
 
You are hands on enough to be useful on a small team, and senior enough that the programme leads can stop thinking about testing once you arrive.

Skills and experience

• Test management experience across HCM, payroll and finance, either on one platform migration or across separate programmes
• Strong payroll testing background, particularly at the strategy and planning stage
• Working understanding of finance process: general ledger posting, month end close, consolidated and entity level reporting
• Experience testing in a multi entity environment where legal and reporting structures do not map cleanly
• Proven ability to write a test strategy from a blank page and get it signed off
• Experience holding a system integrator to account from the client side
• Integration and data migration testing across a landscape of connected systems
• Comfortable in a lean team where you own the approach and the detail
• Cloud HR and finance platform experience such as Workday, SAP, Oracle or similar is useful but not essential
